Helene Nicoletti - Catholic University
Athlete Spotlight
Helene Nicoletti - Senior - The Catholic University of
America
Catholic University women's soccer standout Helene Nicoletti
enjoyed the sort of senior season that student-athletes dream
about. In doing so, she collected an armload of awards and honors,
and also helped Catholic to one of the best seasons in program
history.
Her career on the soccer field has followed a steady a progression,
showing the type of career development that coaches likely picture
when a student-athlete arrives on campus. She saw the field
immediately as a freshman, starting all 20 games for the Cardinals
and scoring one goal from a defensive position. Her stats for her
sophomore season were nearly identical, and Catholic posted 12
victories and reached the Landmark postseason.
One year later, now a junior, she captured first-team
All-Conference honors helping anchor a Catholic defense that
limited foes to 28 goals in 20 games, and this time seeing her team
reach the Landmark Championship match before falling in
overtime.
Finally, in her senior season, the accolades and team honors came
piling in. She again was a first-team All-Conference choice and was
recognized as the Landmark Defensive Player of the Year. All-Region
honors followed for the first time in her career, capturing
first-team honors.
Even more than the personal honors were the team triumphs that
resulted for Catholic in her senior season. The Cardinals finished
atop the Landmark standings, won the program's first Landmark
Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for
the second time and ultimately finished the year with a 17-3-1
record.
If the on-field achievements weren't enough, Nicoletti also excels
in the classroom, a distinction that was honored when she was voted
the Landmark Women's Soccer Senior Scholar Athlete, an award which
is presented to just one student-athlete from each Landmark sport.
A nursing student at Catholic she has earned Dean's List honors in
five of her six semesters prior to this fall, and was also named to
the Fall Landmark All-Academic Team.
And just in case she didn't achieve enough things in the fall
season, once the soccer campaign was over, Nicoletti jumped into
the pool where she earned 19 points in individual events to help
Catholic place third at the Landmark Swimming & Diving
Championships.
And why not...now that swimming season has wrapped up, Nicoletti is
on the roster for the Cardinals track & field team and will try
and help that squad at the upcoming Landmark Indoor Track &
Field Championships.
Just another season and another competition in the life of a
student-athlete who has absolutely gotten the most out of her
Division III collegiate experience.
