Landmark Releases Updated All-Sport Standings

MADISON, N.J. - On the strength of three team championships during the winter season The University of Scranton has surged to the top of the Landmark Conference All-Sport Trophy standings through the completion of the winter sports season. The Royals, who were in second place through the fall season, sit at the top of the standings with 7.28 points. Juniata College dropped into the second position with 6.59 points, with Moravian College just percentage points behind at 6.55. Susquehanna University rounds out the top four with 5.95 points.

In its first year of competition the Landmark Conference has completed play in 12 sports, with eight more sports to be played in the spring season. The Landmark All-Sport Trophy is awarded based on a formula that rewards institutions for their finishes in the regular season conference standings as well as results in Landmark postseason competition. The formula also takes into account the number of sports a school sponsors.

Scranton turned in strong performances in each of the four sports it sponsors during the winter season. The Royals claimed the men's and women's basketball postseason championships and also claimed the women's swimming team title. The women's basketball team won the regular season and postseason title to help build up the Royals' point total.

Juniata got strong efforts in several sports during the winter season to remain near the top of the standings. The Eagles finished the regular season in second place in women's basketball and fourth in men's basketball and then reached the postseason championship game in both sports. Juniata also added third-place finishes in men's and women's indoor track and field.

Moravian jumped up one spot from the fall season on the strength of a pair of team championships during the winter. The Greyhounds captured the men's and women's indoor track & field titles and earned additional points for several individual event wins. The Greyhounds also finished in the top half of the standings in men's and women's basketball with their men's team finishing second in the regular-season standings.

Susquehanna moves up into fourth place after finishing in the top two in the standings in four separate sports. The Crusaders finished at the top of the men's basketball regular season standings, and then were the runners-up in men's and women's indoor track and field along with men's swimming and diving.

With two seasons complete the eight Landmark institutions have already begun competition in the spring season which is the busiest of the three seasons The teams will compete in men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's track and field and baseball and softball during the spring.
