Drew Picks Jason Fein To Lead Athletics Department

MADISON, N.J. - Drew University announced the hiring of Jason
Fein as the Director of Athletics. Most recently the A.D. at the
College of Staten Island, Fein is one of the top young
administrators in the country. He replaces Dr. Connee Zotos, who
retired to take a faculty position at New York University after 14
years at Drew.
"Jason combines integrity with an infectious enthusiasm and
perfectly represents Drew's values and winning tradition,”
said Drew University President Robert Weisbuch. “He comes
with the endorsement of the athletics department, student athletes
and the search committee. Our program will benefit greatly from his
leadership.”
Fein was appointed the College of Staten Island Director of
Athletics in March, 2007. A veteran of the CSI athletics
department, Fein was formerly CSI’s Associate Director of
Athletics and Sports Information Director, a position he was
elevated to in July 2002 after serving as the institution’s
Assistant Athletic Director and Sports Information Director. He
oversaw operations for 13 intercollegiate sports, facility and
membership operations, and all facets of Sports & Recreation
Center management, including staffing and external relations.
His list of accomplishments while at CSI is remarkable. The
department added three sports and have two more additions planned.
A new soccer complex and a new softball field were inducted during
his tenure while general improvements were made to many other
facilities. Most importantly, student-athlete grade point averages
and retention and graduation rates improved as the academic
progress plan that he enacted produced great results.
"It was a very tough decision to leave CSI. After nine years, I'm
leaving with great memories,” said Fein. "You're always on
the lookout for something that is a great opportunity for you and
your family and [the move to Drew University] was certainly
that."
Prior to CSI, Fein spent three years as the Assistant Athletic
Director and Sports Information Director at his alma mater,
Brooklyn College. He played an instrumental role in bringing back
the college’s intercollegiate Division III athletics program
after the school had earlier suspended their Division I
program.
In his time at the College of Staten Island, Fein proved himself a
highly successful fundraiser. He helped organize the annual CSI
Alumni and Friends Golf Outing, as well as the CUNY Athletic
Conference Goodwill Tour, which takes an all-star team overseas
each summer to represent the City University of New York in
international competition as well as provide instruction and
clinics for local underprivileged children.
An active member of the national athletic administrative scene,
Fein served on the board of directors for the ECAC Sports
Information Director’s Association (ECAC-SIDA), recently
serving as the organization’s president. In addition, he
co-chaired the 2003 ECAC-SIDA workshop in Staten Island. He also
serves as a member of the NCAA regional soccer selection committee
as well as the ECAC regional basketball selection committee. Fein
has worked media relations operations for the 1996 Atlanta and 2002
Salt Lake City Olympic Games, the 1998 Goodwill Games, and baseball
playoffs with the New York Yankees since 1996. In 2006, Fein was
honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America
(CoSIDA) with their Inaugural Rising Star Award, given annually to
a trailblazer among sports information professionals.
Fein received his Bachelors Degree in athletic training and his
Masters in sports management from Brooklyn College. He currently
resides in New Jersey with his wife, Cecilia and son, Zachary.
