MADISON, N.J. - Five Landmark Conference teams will have a chance at claiming postseason championships as several conference schools have earned spots in various ECAC Division III Championships.
The Drew University men's soccer and field hockey teams, the Catholic University of America field hockey and women's soccer teams and the Juniata College women's soccer team will all represent the conference in ECAC Championships with opening round play beginning Wednesday Nov. 7. All five teams will be in action on Wednesday, and the semifinals/finals of each tournament wil continue on Saturday and Sunday Nov. 10 and 11.
The Drew men's soccer team is the only team hosting an event on Wednesday as the Rangers earned the fourth seed in the Division III Metro Championship and will host fifth seed St. Joseph's College at 7 p.m. Drew (12-7) claimed the Landmark Men's Soccer Championship with a 2-0 victory over Scranton this past weekend. If they win their opening round match, Drew will face top seed Ramapo in the semifinals on Saturday. Drew features a stingy defense that allowed just 18 goals in 19 matches.
The Landmark earned a pair of bids to the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Division III Championship, with Drew earning the fifth seed and Catholic claiming the eighth seed. Drew will face #4 Montclair State at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, while Catholic must deal with top seed William Patterson at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Catholic has a record of 11-8 and dropped a heartbreaker to Juniata in the Landmark Field Hockey Championship. The Cardinals were 5-1 in the conference during the regular season, and earned five spots on the All-Conference Team. Drew is also 12-7 on the year, and also reached the Landmark postseason before falling to Juniata 2-0. Drew finished third in the Landmark standings, and handed Catholic its only conference defeat. The site for the semifinals and finals of the Championship will determined following the conclusion of the opening round matches.
Two teams will also be representing the Landmark in the Women's Soccer ECAC Division III South Championships as Catholic and Juniata will each be competing. The Cardinals drew the fifth seed and will hit the road to take on fifth seed Widener University at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Juniata claimed the eighth seed and must take on top seed Grove City at 2 p.m. Catholic is 10-3-4 on the year and was the third seed for the Landmark postseason. The Cardinals scored a remarkable 46 goals on the year, including an early season stretch in which they had at least four goals in five consecutive matches. Juniata enters the ECAC postseason with a 9-5-3 record and is appearing in the tournament for the first time after earning its first conference postseason bid in the Landmark postseason. The Eagles allowed the second-fewest goals of any Landmark team during the regular season. The site for the semifinals and finals of the Championship will determined following the conclusion of the opening round matches.
In its first season of competition the Landmark Conference has placed eight teams in postseason play, including NCAA and ECAC Tournament bids. All eight of the conference's institutions had at least one team qualify for Landmark postseason play.
