MADISON, N.J. - Three Landmark Conference fall teams have earned bids to their respective NCAA Division III Tournaments. NCAA Tournament play will begin on Wednesday in field hockey with volleyball following on Thursday and soccer kicking off on Saturday.
The Landmark Conference Champion Juniata College volleyball and field hockey teams, as well as the Moravian College women's soccer teams all earned bids to compete in the NCAA Tournament. As a first-year Division III Conference Landmark champions were not eligible to earn automatic bids to the NCAA field, but the teams were eligible to earn either Pool B (Independents) or Pool C (At-Large) bids.
The Juniata field hockey team will start the tournament schedule for Landmark teams when the Eagles host Johns Hopkins on Wednesday Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. in Huntingdon, Pa. The Eagles are 19-2 on the season after claiming the Landmark Championship, and are currently ranked 13th in the STX/NFHCA Division III Poll. Juniata has made two previous NCAA appearances having lost in overtime in opening round matches in both 2004 and 2006. Wednesday's match will be the first home NCAA contest in the program's history. Should the Eagles win on Wednesay they will move on to play defending national champion Ursinus College on Saturday as part of the four-team regional hosted by Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pa.
Moravian is back in the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three seasons after earning one of the four Pool B berths into the field of 60. The Greyhounds will begin play on Saturday in the four-team regional hosted by Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. Moravian, which has a record of 15-5-1 will face host Hamilton on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the regional championship match to follow on Sunday. Moravian finished second in the Landmark Conference and is currently one victory shy of matching the program record for wins in a season.
Juniata volleyball will begin NCAA competition on Thursday when the Eagles begin play at the Mid-Atlantic Regional host by Haverford College in Haverford, Pa. The eight-team regional will begin on Thursday with four matches, and Juniata will face Philadelphia Biblical University in the opening round at 1 p.m. Juniata is 33-4 on the season and are ranked second in the most recent CSTV/AVCA Division III poll. The Eagles are the defending Division III national champions, and will be making their 27th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
NCAA Tournament play in all three sports will continue the following weekend with semifinal and finals being held Nov. 16-17 for field hockey and volleyball and the women's soccer semifinals/finals being held Nov. 24-25. The field hockey final rounds will be held at Ursinus in Collegeville, Pa. The women's volleyball tournament will see the quarterfinals/semifinals/finals played over three days beginning Nov. 15 on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington, Ill. The soccer semifinals/finals will be held at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
