Nine Student-Athletes Earn Player of the Week Honors
MADISON, N.J. - Another full week of Landmark competition, including the first weekend of Landmark volleyball action, earns nine student-athletes Landmark Player of the Week recognition. The Landmark Player of the Week selections are made by the Landmark Conference office.
Men's Cross Country:
Paul Thistle turned in one of his best performances of the season
at the Lehigh Paul Short Invitational. He ran a personal best time
of 25:25.00 for the 8K course, the second-fastest time in the
Landmark this season at that distance, to place 11th of out 323
runners in the Brown race at the big invitational. He was the
third-fastest Division III runner in the race, and helped
Susquehanna place 11th of 38 schools in the Brown competition.
Women's Cross Country:
Susquehanna sophomore Casey Hess continued her fine performances
as she earns Runner of the Week honors for the third time this
season after a strong run at the Lehigh Paul Short Invitational.
Hess placed 12th out of 338 runners in the Brown section of the
invitiational, and she covered the 6K course in 22:01.00 the
fastest 6K time in Landmark history. She was the sixth-fastest DIII
runner in the race and helped Susquehanna place 22nd of 39 schools.
Field Hockey
Offensive Player of the Week:
Susquehanna senior Andrea Fiori scored two overtime game-winning
goals to help the Crusaders to a perfect 2-0 week. She closed the
week by knocking home the winning goal 32 seconds into overtime to
give Susquehanna a wild 4-3 Landmark victory over Scranton. Earlier
in the week she gave Susquehanna a 3-2 overtime win over Elmira
with her second goal of the match, in the 76th minute. For the week
she scored three goals, good for six points.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Meghan McGlone was a key contributor to a Juniata defense that
posted a pair of shutouts in two victories this past week. The
sophomore collected three defensive saves over the two matches. She
cleared one ball off the line to preserve the shutout in
Juniata’s 6-0 win over Frostburg, and then in a win over
Landmark foe Moravian she added two defensive saves. She also
assisted on one of Juniata’s goals in the win over the
Greyhounds.
Men's Soccer:
Offensive Player of the Week:
Clint Foster continued his strong play for USMMA as the senior had
a hand in all three goals for the Mariners this past week. He
picked up the assist on the only goal of the match as USMMA
remained unbeaten in Landmark play with a 1-0 win over Catholic.
Earlier in the week he scored both goals in a Mariners’ win
over Manhattanville. He finished the week with five points.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Senior defender Kyle Kempinski anchored a USMMA defense that did
not concede a goal in a pair of matches this week. Against Landmark
foe Catholic, Kempinski and the Mariners held the Cardinals to just
six shots, and two shots on goal to record the shutout and the
team’s 10th-straight win. Earlier in the week he helped USMMA
blank Manhattanville in non-conference action, while limiting the
opponents to eight shots, five of them on goal.
Women's Soccer:
Offensive Player of the Week:
Drew’s Courtney Carnevale had a productive offensive week
for the Rangers. The freshman scored the opening goal, which proved
to be the match winner, as the Rangers claimed their first Landmark
win 3-0 over Goucher. Earlier in the week she scored an early goal
to put Drew in front against Stevens before the home team rallied
for the win.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Susquehanna goalkeeper Alyssa Kemmerer collected a pair of
shutouts to help the Crusaders to an unbeaten week. She closed the
week by stopping a career-high 16 shots as Susquehanna knocked off
Landmark foe Scranton 1-0 in double overtime. Earlier in the week
she made four saves and did not allow a goal in a 0-0 draw against
Wilkes. The shutouts were her third and fourth of the year.
Volleyball:
Megan Smith helped Goucher go 2-1 at the first Landmark
round-robin, and 3-3 overall for the week with several strong
outings. The senior knocked out 76 kills over the six matches,
reaching double figures four times, and averaging 3.80 kills per
set. She saved her best for last as she knocked out 20 kills and
brought up 24 digs as Goucher closed play at the Landmark event
with a 3-2 comeback win over Moravian. She had 79 digs in total for
the week, while also adding 12 blocks and 11 aces. She averaged
nearly five points per set for the week.
