Landmark Selects Player of the Week Honorees
MADISON, N.J. - A full week of spring sports action has earned 10 student-athlete Landmark Player of the Week honors. The Landmark Player of the Week selections are made by the Landmark Conference office.
Baseball:
Player:
Ethan Rieker powered the Susquehanna offense over the
final six games of its spring break trip in Florida. The senior
knocked out 11 hits in six games, providing a .478 batting average
with four runs scored. He knocked out a pair of doubles and a
triple to give him a .652 slugging percentage over the week, and
had multi-hit games in four of the six contests during the
week.
Pitcher:
Freshman Zach Place earned his first collegiate win for
Susquehanna on its spring break trip to Florida. He posted a
complete-game shutout, going seven innings and scattering three
hits in a 2-0 victory over Westminster. He fanned five while
walking only one to claim the victory in the contest.
Men's Lacrosse:
Offensive:
Susquehanna’s Dustin Breakey had five points in both
of the team’s victories last week. The Crusaders improved to
3-2 with wins over Oglethorpe and Wittenberg with Breakey providing
significant offense. He scored twice and had three assists in a
12-5 win over Wittenberg, and earlier in the week dished out four
assists with one goal in a win over Oglethorpe.
Defensive:
Paul Taylor anchored a Goucher defense that turned in two strong
performances as the Gophers swept a pair of non-conference games.
He helped lead the defense that allowed a total of four goals as
Goucher claimed a 6-3 win over Frostburg State and a 15-1 triumph
over Lasell. He produced five turnovers in the Lasell match, and
added one caused turnover against Frostburg State, while also
recording two ground balls in each match.
Women's Lacrosse:
Offense:
Erin Reifsnyder did a bit of everything as Goucher earned its first
two victories of the 2012 season. The sophomore opened the week
with a six-goal performance as the team beat Colby-Sawyer for its
first win of the year. She followed it up with three goals and one
assist in a narrow two-goal win over Shenandoah. The midfielder
also contributed eight ground balls, six draw controls and six
caused turnovers over the two contests.
Defense:
Goalkeeper Emily Stankaitis was stout in net during a 2-0 week for
Susquehanna this past week. She stopped 23 shots over two matches,
for a .590 save percentage as Susquehanna downed King's and
Lynchburg. She conceded only five goals with eight saves against
King's and then stopped 15 shots while allowing 11 tallies against
Lynchburg. She finished the week with an 8.00 goals against average
and also had a pair of ground balls.
Softball:
Player:
Shannen Mohr led the Moravian offense as the team went 5-5
on its spring break trip at the National Training Center in
Florida. Mohr hit .381 for the week with eight hits in nine games,
with five of the eight hits going for extra bases. She also drew a
pair of walks for a .435 on-base percentage and a .762 slugging
percentage. She had three doubles, a triple and a home run while
driving in six runs and score four times during the week.
Pitcher:
Kelsea Decker turned in several strong pitching efforts
for Juniata on its spring break trip, posting a 4-1 record in her
five appearances. After dropping her first start, she won her next
three and also claimed a win in relief as she recorded a 1.91 ERA
over 33 innings of work. She fanned 40 batters over the 33 innings,
including 15 hitters with only one walk in the team's final game of
the trip. She allowed only 12 earned runs and 19 hits over 33
innings, and struck out at least seven hitters in four of her five
appearances.
Men's Tennis:
Sophomore Brian Bradley helped Catholic go unbeaten in four matches
as part of its spring break trip to South Carolina. Playing at
third singles he went a perfect 4-0 on the week, winning all four
matches in straight sets and not losing more than three games in
any set. He also added a 3-1 record in doubles action, giving him
seven total victories in four matches.
Women's Tennis:
Junior Chelsea Ott finished with a 3-1 overall record over
two matches for Moravian during its spring break trip to South
Carolina. She was a perfect 2-0 playing at first singles for the
Greyhounds, and notched a 1-1 record at first doubles in matches
against Wilkes and Bridgewater. The two wins improved her career
singles mark to 42-6.
