Landmark Selects Players of the Week
MADISON, N.J. - With the spring sports season now in full swing the Landmark Conference has selected seven student-athletes as Landmark Players of the Week. The Landmark Player of the Week selections are made by the Landmark Conference office.
Baseball
Player of the Week:
Moravian’s Kevin O’Keefe got off to a hot
start on the team’s spring break trip to Florida. The junior
was 4-for-5 at the plate as Moravian opened the trip with a 10-2
win over Mt. St. Mary. He had a double and a triple among his four
hits, and also drove in three runs while recording 13 putouts at
first.
Pitcher of the Week:
Sophomore Tom Koontz helped Drew earn its first win of
the new season with a solid first outing. He went seven innings,
allowing only one earned run on six hits, while striking out 10. He
did not walk a batter in the seven innings to capture the victory
as Drew topped Northland 10-3.
Men's Lacrosse
Offensive Player of the Week:
Freshman Andrew Somps started his college career in fine fashion as
Drew downed King’s in its season opener. The freshman had a
hand in six of the Rangers’ 11 goals in the match. He scored
twice, and picked up four assists in the win. He scored the two
goals on just three shots, and also added three ground balls for
Drew.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Susquehanna goalkeeper Jordan Daney got his season off to a strong
start with a win in the team’s opener. He made seven saves in
goal while conceding just three scores and anchored a defense that
limited visiting Washington & Jefferson to just 19 shots. He
also contributed one ground ball in the victory.
Women's Lacrosse
Offensive Player of the Week:
Hannah Khin was an all-around force over three games for Goucher
this past week. She scored 15 goals in three games, including a
career-high seven in a victory over Lebanon Valley. She also passed
out three assists, giving her 18 points, for an average of six
points per game. She contributed 13 ground balls and four caused
turnovers while scoring on 15 of her 23 shots as Goucher went 2-1
in the games.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Goalkeeper Kathleen Smart was strong in the net as Scranton opened
its 2011 season this past week. The sophomore tied her career high
with ten saves, six of which came in the first half as the Royals
were locked at a 3-3 score before Haverford pulled away in the
second half.
Softball
Pitcher of the Week:
Susquehanna’s Cara Swerdlow helped the Crusaders sweep a
season-opening doubleheader with a strong game in the circle. The
senior did not allow a hit while walking just one batter and
striking out 10 and allowing only two runs in a 10-2 win.
