Landmark Honors 14 Players of the Week

MADISON, N.J. - Fourteen Landmark Conference student-athletes have been selected as Landmark Players of the Week after a week of spring sport competition. The Landmark Conference Player of the Week selections are made by the Landmark office.

Baseball Player:
Junior Joe Devine helped Catholic to a 3-1-1 week. He hit .474 over the five games, and hit safely in every contest on the week. He had three multi-hit games including a 2-for-4 performance with three RBI and a run scored in a win over Scranton in the series finale. He had a pair of doubles in that win, which gave him three extra base hits for the week. He finished the week with nine hits, six RBI and four runs scored.

Baseball Pitcher:
Juniata hurler Jay Enoch tossed a complete-game shutout in a Landmark win over Susquehanna. The senior went all nine innings in the 9-0 win to secure his Landmark-leading sixth win of the year. Only four Crusaders reached base as he allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out 13 hitters.

Men's Field:
Moravian junior Alan Woods won his only event at The College of New Jersey Invitational. He established a new school record, and posted an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark by clearing 4.70 meters in the pole vault. He broke a school record that was set nearly 13 years ago.

Women's Field:
Moravian sophomore Anna Heim broke the school record in the pole vault at the non-scored The College of New Jersey Invitational. She cleared 3.78 meters to place first in the pole vault event, and that height is good for an NCAA Division III Provisional mark. She also placed fifth in the javelin at the meet with a throw of 33.54 meters.

Men's Lacrosse Offense:
Sophomore attack Jon Bucknam provided plenty of offensive punch in a 18-6 Drew victory over Landmark foe Susquehanna. Buckname, who leads the conference in points per game, scored four times in the victory and also dished out three assists. He found the goal on four of his eight shots, and also collected a pair of ground balls in the contest.

Men's Lacrosse Defense:
Freshman Patrick Cefalu helped Scranton post a trio of dominating victories this past week with his strong defensive play. He recorded 21 ground balls over the three games, including 12 in a win over Marywood, and also won 31 of the 37 faceoffs he took part in. His efforts helped Scranton limit their three foes to just nine goals over three games, and saw the Royals reach 10 victories for just the second time in program history.

Women's Lacrosse Offense:
Freshman midfielder Stacie Brown helped Drew remain unbeaten in Landmark play with two solid performances. She scored three times and added three assists as Drew held off Scranton to close the week. Earlier in the week she scored twice and added two assists in a Landmark win over Moravian. She added a pair of ground balls and five caused turnovers in the two games. Each of her three goals against Scranton came in the second half as the Rangers held off a Scranton rally.

Women's Lacrosse Defense:
Susquehanna's Jess Weiss played two solid games in goals as the Crusaders split two Landmark matches. She stopped 11 shots and added a ground ball as Susquehanna pulled out a tight 13-11 win for its first Landmark victory. Weiss followed that up with 12 saves and another ground ball in a 3OT set-back to Goucher. Weiss lowered her goals against average to 12.70 with the two performances.

Softball Player:
Moravian senior Beth Paly earns her second Player of the Week honor as she continues to provide offensive punch for the Greyhounds. Playing four different positions over six games, Paly hit .476 and scored 10 runs in six Moravian wins. She hit safely in all six games, extending her hitting streak to 12 games. She had three extra base hits on the week (two doubles, one triple) and drove home four runs. Paly produced three multi-hit games, including a 3-for-3 performance against Delaware Valley in which she also scored three runs.

Softball Pitcher:
Scranton junior Isabel Mendez won five games this past week to help Scranton extend its winning streak to 14 games overall. Mendez was a perfect 5-0 on the week, including earning wins in three of Scranton's four Landmark victories. She tossed 33 innings, and allowed just four earned runs for a 0.85 ERA. She had complete-game shutouts in her first three starts and did not allow an earned run in a complete-game wins over Susquehanna and Catholic. She fanned 18 hitters on the week, and surrendered just 21 hits.

Men's Tennis:
Sophomore Victor Kolarov helped Drew clinch a Landmark postseason berth and remain unbeaten in conference play with a strong week. He went a perfect 4-0 in singles competition on the week, including three wins in Landmark action. He was also 3-0 in Landmark doubles play (3-1 overall). He did not drop a set in singles competition playing at sixth singles, and is a perfect 6-0 in conference singles action on the year.

Women's Tennis:
Moravian senior Lindsey Hopper won all four of her matches this week to help the Greyhounds clinch the number one seed for the Landmark postseason. She posted straight set wins at first singles in victories over Scranton and Drew, and teamed with partner Dyana Swan for victories at first doubles in both matches as well. The wins improved her to 3-4 at first singles on the season.

Men's Track:
Moravian senior Nathaniel Tussey earns track athlete of the week honors for the second-consecutive week after a strong showing at The College of New Jersey Invitational. Tussey placed first in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 14.47 seconds and won the 400-meter hurdles with a mark of 53.03 seconds. Both times were NCAA DIII provisional times and his 400 hurdles time was a new school record.

Women's Track:
Competing against primarily Division I and II athletes Susquehanna freshman Alycia Woodruff broke her own school record in the 1,500 at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic. She placed 10th in the open 1,500 running the fastest time in the conference this season with a mark of 4:43.69. Her time was faster than all 52 competitors running in the non-invite 1,500.
