Fourteen Athletes Named Landmark Players of the Week

MADISON, N.J. - With the spring athletics season winding down another fourteen Landmark Conference student-athletes have been selected as Landmark Players of the Week after a week of spring sport competition. The Landmark Conference Player of the Week selections are made by the Landmark office.
Baseball Player:
USMMA sophomore Mike Bybee had a monster week at the plate for
Mariners who went 3-2 over five games. Bybee hit .455 for the week
with 10 hits in 22 at-bats. Five of his 10 hits went for extra
bases, including three home runs which all came in a Landmark win
over Scranton. He was 3-for-4 with three home runs and five RBI in
that win over the Royals, and he closed the week with 14 RBI and
six runs scored and posted a 1.045 slugging percentage over the
five games.
Baseball Pitcher:
Juniata pitcher Jay Enoch continued his strong Landmark season
with a complete-game win against Scranton. He went seven innings,
and did not allow a run and surrendered just four hits to pick up
his conference-leading seventh win. With the shutout, he lowered
his ERA in Landmark games to 0.56.
Men's Field:
Susquehanna senior Mike Marr produced another strong effort at the
Greyhound Invitational. Marr placed third in the high jump at the
meet, finishing only behind two Division I competitors, and he
posted the second-highest height of the season in the event. He
cleared 1.98 meters in the event.
Women's Field:
Moravian sophomore Anna Heim broke her own school record in the
pole vault, just one week after establishing the mark at the
Greyhound Invitational. She cleared 3.85 meters to win the event
and improve on her NCAA Division III automatic qualifying height
and she won the event by .20 meters.
Men's Lacrosse Offense:
Senior Ryan Merritt helped USMMA to a pair of Landmark victories
this past week. He scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the
Mariners defeated Drew in midweek, and then found the back of the
goal three times in a victory over Susquehanna. He had the game
winner against Susquehanna as well, and finished the week with five
goals and a ground ball.
Men's Lacrosse Defense:
Freshman goalkeeper Jeremy Dowiak played two strong games in goal
as Scranton swept a pair of Landmark contests. He recorded 10 saves
in a tight 12-9 win over Moravian and then stopped nine shots in
another close win over Catholic. He allowed just 15 goals in 120
minutes of action, and also contributed seven ground balls for the
Royals who established a new program record for wins in a season
with the two victories.
Women's Lacrosse Offense:
Senior Erika Spatz had three huge offensive games for the
Greyhounds who went 2-1 during the week. She tallied 19 goals over
the three games, scoring at least five times in all three contests.
She also dished out four assists and added three ground balls and a
caused turnover. She had six goals in Moravian's conference
set-back against Goucher. Her effort on the week established a new
school record for goals, assists and points in a season.
Women's Lacrosse Defense:
Catholic senior Caitlin O'Neil helped the Cardinals earn two
victories this past week. The Cards held two opponents to fewer
than 10 goals, beating Marymount 18-9 and Scranton 18-5. O'Neil
produced four ground balls, four draw controls and three caused
turnovers. She also contributed on the offensive end with four
goals over the two games.
Softball Player:
Sophomore Rachel Nagy was a force offensively for Juniata in a
pair of doubleheaders this past week. Over four games she hit .571
with nine RBI and four runs scored to help the Eagles go 2-2 and
keep their postseason hopes alive. She hit safely in all four
games, and had multi-hit efforts in three of the four contests
including belting a pair of home runs in a win over Messiah and had
two hits with four RBI in a victory over Susquehanna.
Softball Pitcher:
Junior pitcher Maria DeBonis picked up four victories in four
appearances for Moravian this past week as the Greyhounds clinched
the top seed for the Landmark postseason. DeBonis pitched 21 2-3
innings, and did not allow an earned run. She allowed only one run
total, and surrendered just 13 hits while striking out 23 batters
for the week. Her ERA over the four games was 0.32.
Men's Tennis:
Sophomore Victor Kolarov earned four more victories this week to
close the season with an unblemished singles record. Among the wins
was a critical victory at sixth singles against Scranton which
helped the team complete the Landmark season unbeaten. He also had
a straight-set singles win against Hunter. Kolarov also took both
of his doubles matches during the week teaming with Sayed Saber for
a pair of victories.
Women's Tennis:
Goucher sophomore picked up singles and doubles wins in a critical
Landmark victory and also added a singles win earlier in the week
for the Gophers. In a victory that clinched a berth in the Landmark
postseason Heinz claimed a 6-4, 6-4 win at second singles and
teamed with Joan Pulupa for an 8-5 win at first doubles to help
Goucher defeat Susquehanna. Earlier in the week she had her team's
only point with a 6-4, 7-5 win at second singles against Dickinson.
Men's Track:
Moravian senior Ozzie Brown won three events, and posted four NCAA
Division III provisional qualifying times at the Greyhounds
Invitational. He won the 100 in a time of 10.63, the 200 in 21.71
and the long jump at 7.25 meters. He also anchored the 4x100 relay
which placed third and posted an NCAA provisional mark.
Women's Track:
Sophomore Jessica Posimo had several strong performances
for Moravian at the Greyhound Invitational. She placed second in
the 100-hurdles, breaking the school record and narrowly missing an
NCAA qualifying mark in a time of 15.04. She also added an
11th-place finish in the 200 with a time of 25.84 and helped the
4x100 relay team record an NCAA provisional time of 48.07 and place
third.
