Landmark Selects 14 Players of the Week

MADISON, N.J. - With several sports crowning conference champions and other closing out their regular season the Landmark Conference has picked 14 spring sports athletes as Players of the Week. The Landmark Conference Player of the Week selections are made by the Landmark office.

Baseball Player:
Scranton sophomore Chris Bligh had a huge offensive week as the Royals went 7-0. He hit .636 with 14 hits and 22 at-bats. Six of those 14 hits went for extra bases, including three homr runs. He also had two doubles and a triple, while also recording 12 RBI which established a new Scranton single-season record. One of his homers was a two-run walk-off blast to lift the Royals over USMMA in a Landmark game. He also scored 14 runs over the seven games. He had at least two hits in five of the seven games.

Baseball Pitcher:
Catholic reliever Michael Bzozowski had a pair of strong relief appearances for Catholic during a 5-0 week for the Cardinals. He tossed 4 1-3 innings of scoreless relief for the week. He tossed three innings of shutout relief to earn a win as Catholic rallied to defeat Washington (Md.) in extra innings. He then tossed 1 1-3 innings of shutout relief as the Cardinals swept Drew. He allowed only one hit over four innings and struck out five with just one walk.

Men's Field:
Juniata senior Matthew Booth was named the Male co-Field Outstanding Performer at the Landmark Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Booth won the triple jump at the meet with a leap of 13.51 meters. He also placed second in the long jump with a season-best effort of 7.05 meters.

Men's Field:
Outstanding performer as Moravian won the Landmark Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Maginnis won both the discus and shot put at the meet. He tossed 41.27 meters in the discus and 15.29 meters in the shot put. Maginnis was also fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 41.01 meters.

Women's Field:
Susquehanna senior Ashley Moormann was selected as the Female Field Outstanding Performer for her effort at the Landmark Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Moormann won the hammer throw and the shot put at the meet, and added third-place finishes in the discus and javelin. She threw 35.77 meters in the hammer, 10.24 in the shot, 35.29 in the javelin and 31.62 in the discus.

Men's Lacrosse Offense:
Drew junior Sean McNulty had one of his best games of the season as the Rangers downed Scranton in their regular season finale. He found the back of the goal four times to lead Drew in the game, and also had an assist and nine ground balls as the Rangers clinched the top seed for the upcoming Landmark postseason.

Men's Lacrosse Defense:
Sophomore Mike DiGiesi made an offensive and defensive impact for the Cardinals this past week. He scored a goal and added three assists in a remarkable seven-overtime game against York (Pa.). Catholic lost the game in the seventh overtime, but DiGiesi contributed to a defense that kept the visitors off the scoreboard over the first six overtime periods. He then added another assist as Catholic limited Landmark foe Moravian to 23 shots and five goals in its season finale.  

Women's Lacrosse Offense:
Senior Erika Spatz earns player of the week honors for the second time in as many weeks after two strong outings to close the season. She scored five goals with two assists as the Greyhounds downed Alvernia 25-10 and then added four goals in Moravian's Landmark season finale against Susquehanna. She also contributed nine ground balls, eight draw controls and two caused turnovers during the week. Spatz also produced her 100th career goal in the win over Alvernia.

Softball Player:
Freshman Mia Collarini had a strong week offensive for Scranton as the Royals wrapped up the regular season with three victories. She hit .500 (6-12) over the four games, and scored eight runs with a pair of RBI. Had a pair of multi-hit games on the week and also scored at least two runs in three of the four contests.

Softball Pitcher:
Junior pitcher Maria DeBonis had another stellar week for the Greyhounds as the team went 4-0. DeBonis picked up three victories with two shutouts, including a perfect game in a win over Landmark opponent Drew. She allowed only one run and seven hits in 21 innings of work. She fanned 23 batters on the week and boasted an ERA of 0.33.

Men's Tennis:
Senior Jon Pivor went a perfect 4-0 in a pair of matches as Drew claimed the innaugural Landmark Men's Tennis Championship. He won at third singles in straight sets in both the semifinals and finals, winning 6-1, 7-6 in the finals against Catholic, and 6-2, 6-3 against Moravian in the semifinals. He also teamed with Vik Rao for a pair wins at first doubles by scores of 8-5 and 8-3 in the semifinals and finals respectively.

Women's Tennis:
Senior Brittany Popaca closed her final regular season by capturing three singles wins as Moravian claimed the first Landmark Women's Tennis Championship. She earned a three-set victory at third singles in the Landmark Championship match after claiming a straight set win in the semifinals. She also had a singles win in a non-conference match during the week. Popaca was also a winner in doubles action in the Landmark semifinals.

Men's Track:
Moravian senior Ozzie Brown helped Moravian win the Landmark Outdoor Track & Field Championship while being named Male Track Outstanding Performer. He won three track events as he placed first in the 100 (10.73), 110 hurdles (14.49) and the 200 (21.56). All three of the times were NCAA provisional qualifying marks. He also won the long jump at the meet in another NCAA qualifying mark.

Women's Track:
Freshman Sydni Wisniewski was named the Female Track Outstanding Performer as Moravian won the Landmark Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Wisniewski won three individual events as she placed first in the 100 (12.60), the 200 (25.67) and the 400 (58.40). She also ran on the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. Her time in the 400 and the 4x100 times were NCAA provisional qualifying marks.
