Landmark Announces Final Spring Players of the Week

MADISON, N.J. - Following the conclusion of four Landmark spring sport championships the Landmark Conference has named eight student-athletes as Landmark Players of the Week. The Landmark Player of the Week selections are made by the conference office.

Baseball Player:
Catholic senior Joe Maca provided offensive punch for the Cardinals to help the team win the Landmark baseball championship. He hit .467 in three games during the postseason, knocking out seven hits in 15 at-bats. He went 4-for-6 in a comeback win over Susquehanna, and added four RBI and three runs scored in that game. He added another two hits, two runs and two RBI in the clinching win over Scranton. Overall, Maca had six runs scored and six RBI over the three games, and he also stole five bases.

Baseball Pitcher:
Catholic reliever Michael Bzozowski made three key appearances for the Cardinals as the team claimed the innaugural Landmark baseball championship. He tossed four innings of relief, earning a win and a save while allowing just one base runner. He went two innings to earn the win in a comeback win over Susquehanna and then had a one-inning save in a win over Juniata. He then tossed the final inning as Catholic claimed the title with a win over Scranton. He struck out seven hitters over the four innings.

Men's Lacrosse Offense:
Senior Rob Budziszewski was a key offensive component for Drew as the Rangers won the first Landmark men’s lacrosse championship. He scored the winning goal with just 33 seconds remaining in Drew’s semifinal victory over USMMA, and then produced three assists as the Rangers topped Goucher in the final. He had six points overall for the week, with two goals and an assist in the semifinal, and the three assists in the championship. He also contributed six ground balls over the two matches.

Men's Lacrosse Defense:
Drew freshman defender Greg Hamilton played a major role in helping Drew earn the first Landmark men’s lacrosse championship. Hamilton was charged with marking All-Conference attackers in both the semifinals and finals, and he limited his men to score just two combined goals in the two contests. He was a critical piece of a defense that surrendered just 12 goals in the two postseason contests, including only five scores in the championship win. Hamilton also contributed five ground balls defensively.  

Women's Lacrosse Offense:
Catholic midfielder Kate Robinson played a major role as the Cardinals earned two wins to claim the first Landmark women’s lacrosse championship. In the championship match, the sophomore scored five goals on nine shots, while adding three gound balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover to help the team to a 21-10 victory. In the semifinal win over Susquehanna she again scored five goals, while adding three gound balls, one draw control and a caused turnover.

Women's Lacrosse Defense:
Catholic goalkeeper Melissa Brashear played a pair of strong games in net to help Catholic claim the first Landmark women’s lacrosse championship. She yielded just 10 goals in the championship match win over Goucher, which came after she allowed six goals in the semifinal win. She stopped 17 shots over the two matches, and also picked up three ground balls. Her goals against average over the two games was 8.00 while she produced a .515 savee percentage.

Softball Player:
Senior Megan Ritchey provided offensive firepower for Moravian as the Greyhounds won the Landmark softball championship. She saved her best performance for the clinching victory as she went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, two RBI and a run scored in Moravian’s win over Catholic. She finished the postseason with a .556 batting average (5-for-9) three RBI and three runs scored.

Softball Pitcher:
Moravian junior pitcher Maria DeBonis continued her remarkable junior season by earning three victories as Moravian claimed the Landmark softball championship. She tossed a complete-game shutout in the tourney opener as Moravian topped Drew 3-0, again through a shutout in a five-inning win over Scranton, and then closed out the tournament with another complete-game win over Catholic. She tossed a total of 19 innings without allowing a run, and scattered eight hits in the postseason. She struck out 32 hitters, including 14 against Drew and 10 against Scranton, while walking just two.
