Landmark Chooses Players Of the Week

MADISON, N.J. - Following the conclusion of another full week of fall sport competition, including the completion of the Landmark volleyball regular season, nine student-athlete have been chosen as Landmark Players of the Week. The Landmark Player of the Week selections are made by the Landmark Conference office.

Men's Cross Country:
Moravian’s Connor Skutches turned in a strong performance at the Lehigh Paul Short Invitational. He ran a time of 26:49 over the 8K course, his fastest time of the season and the third-fastest 8K in the Landmark this year. That was good enough for a 33rd-place finish out of a field of 270 runners, and helped Moravian place 19th among 41 schools at the meet.

Women's Cross Country:
Moravian freshman Hailey Neff turned in one of the best runs of her young career at the Lehigh Paul Short Invitational. Neff placed 68th out of a field of 260 runners at the meet, helping Moravian tie for 19th out of 37 schools. She covered the 6,000-meter course in a season-best time of 23:49, which ranks as the second fastest time this season in the conference at the 6K distance.

Field Hockey
Offensive Player of the Week:

Catholic senior Ro Dixon was a strong contributor in a pair of wins this past week. She scored the only goal of the match as the Cardinals bested Juniata 1-0 in their Landmark opener. She also led the team with five shots. Earlier in the week she assisted on the game-winning goal, while also scoring once herself and producing a defensive save in a Catholic win over St. Mary’s. She finished the week with five points in two contests.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Catholic goalkeeper Marian Cassilly posted a pair of shutouts this past week in helping the Cardinals to a pair of wins. She made a pair of saves as Catholic opened Landmark play with a 1-0 win over Juniata, and she stopped three shots in a 4-0 whitewash of St. Mary’s earlier in the week. She played 140 minutes in goal without a conceding a score over the week, and lowered her goals against average to 1.05.

Men's Soccer:
Offensive Player of the Week:

Catholic’s Matt Brady scored a pair of crucial goals to give the Cardinals two tight victories this past week. He closed the week by producing the game-winning goal in the 102nd minute as Catholic outlasted Juniata 2-1 in double overtime to remain unbeaten in Landmark play. Earlier in the week, he scored twice, including the match winner in the 90th minute as the Cardinals topped St. Mary’s 3-2.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Scranton goalkeeper Brandon Dombrowski was critical in helping his team earn a hard-fought draw with defending Landmark Champion Drew. The sophomore stopped a career-high 11 shots, including three crucial saves in the second overtime to preserve a 2-2 draw against the nationally-ranked Rangers.

Women's Soccer:
Offensive Player of the Week:

Moravian senior Tracy Fitzpatrick enjoyed a prolific week as the Greyhounds went 1-1 in a pair of non-conference matches. She netted her first career hat-trick in a decisive 7-0 win over Philadelphia Biblical to start the week. Fitzpatrick scored three times in the first 14 minutes of the match to spur the Greyhounds to the lopsided win. She had two shots, but did not find the back of the net in a 2-1 loss to York to close the week.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Catholic goalkeeper Tere Rossi made a big impact in helping the Cardinals to a 2-0 week. She stopped three shots, and conceded just one goal as her team opened Landmark play with a 2-1 win over Juniata. Earlier in the week she recorded six saves as Catholic outlasted Stevenson 3-2. For the week she posted nine saves, good for a .750 save percentage.

Volleyball:
Goucher’s Megan Smith piled up remarkable numbers in four matches this week, including three at the Landmark round-robin. Despite not coming away with victories, Smith recorded three double-doubles in kills and digs, and reached double figures in digs in all four of her team’s matches. She posted a 35-kill, 19-dig effort in a five-set loss to Moravian and had at least eight kills in each match. She averaged 4.86 kills and 4.93 digs per set during the course of the week, with a solid .232 hitting percentage.
