Landmark Honors 14 Players of the Week

MADISON, N.J. - Following the first full week of spring sports competition 14 student-athletes have been chosen as Landmark Players of the Week. The Player of the Week selections are made by the conference office.

Baseball Player:
Sophomore Don Kirkland provided offensive pop for the Crusad­ers as they went 4-2 in six Landmark games (4-3 overall) on the week. Kirkland hit .391 overall and .474 in Landmark contests, while belting three home runs and collecting 10 RBI. He posted three multi-hit games on the week, including a 2-for-2 perfor­mance with two home runs in a win over Drew. He also scored five runs and added a double and three walks for the week.

Baseball Pitcher:
Sophomore Justin Champagne pitched Scranton to a pair of Landmark victories this past week. The hurler tossed a total of 14 innings and did not allow an earned run in wins over Susquehanna and Moravian respectively. He scattered four hits with seven strikeouts over eight innings against Susquehanna and then gave up no earned runs on seven hits in six innings against Moravian. He struck out 14 batters on the week, and gave up 11 hits and just three unearned runs.  

Men's Lacrosse Offense:
Senior attack Rob Budziszewski provided big offensive output as Drew earned Landmark wins over Moravian and Catholic this past week. He scored five goals while adding an assist in the win over Moravian, and followed it up with a six-goal, one-assist perfor­mance as Drew downed Catholic. He also produced seven ground balls over the two games. He is averaging four goals per game in the early season.

Men's Lacrosse Defense:
Junior defender Michael DeGiovanni was a force on the defen­sive and offensive ends for Drew in a pair of Landmark wins. He helped the Ranger defense limit opponents to just 12 goals in two games as Drew topped Moravian and Catholic. He contributed 11 ground balls over the two games, and also jumped into the attack scoring four goals and adding an assist in the two contests.  

Women's Lacrosse Offense:
Catholic's Kate Robinson enjoyed two strong games as the Cardi­nals went 1-1. She scored five goals and added an assist as Catho­lic held on for a tight 17-14 win over Christopher Newport. Her five goals came on eight shots, and she produced six ground balls and six draw controls in the win. Against 8th-ranked Washington & Lee she found the net four times with another assist. She added four draw controls and another ground ball.

Women's Lacrosse Defense:
Scranton junior Diana Rocklein provided offense and defense in a pair of Scranton victories over Widener and Mt. St. Vincent. She had six ground balls in each match, and along with six caused turnovers (five against Mt. St. Vincent) and helped Scranton limit the two teams to 18 goals in two matches. She also scored four goals and added an assist on the week.  

Men's Field:
Susquehanna senior Mike Marr opened the outdoor season with a strong performance at the Jim Taylor Invitational. Marr won the high jump with a leap of 1.93 meters. He then added a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a best effort of 12.71 meters.

Women's Field:
Moravian sophomore Flora Robertson produced several strong performances against a mostly Division I field at the Lafayette/ESU five-way. She provisionally qualified for the NCAA champi­onships with a best toss of 46.80 meters. The throw also estab­lished a new school record. In addition, she finished in the top 10 in the discus, shot put and javelin at the meet.  

Softball Player:
Scranton freshman Annie Zeleniak provided offensive spark for the Royals in six games this past week. She hit safely in all six contests, closing the week with 10 hits in 20 at-bats for a .500 bat­ting average. She added seven RBI, four runs scored, four doubles and a home run. She drove in the winning run in two of Scranton's four Landmark wins, and scored the winning run in another of the conference victories.

Softball Pitcher:
Moravian junior hurler Maria DeBonis tossed a pair of complete-game shutouts while earning two wins on the week. She went all six innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out 11 in a victory over Landmark foe USMMA. Earlier in the week she scattered five hits in a 3-0 victory over Elizabethtown. DeBo­nis had 11 strikeouts and just one walk in that victory.

Men's Tennis:
Sophomore Ian Box was dominant in singles and doubles com­petition as the Greyhounds claimed a pair of Landmark wins. Against Susquehanna he prevailed 6-0, 6-0 at first singles and joined with teammate Keith Feinman for an 8-1 first doubles victory. He followed it up with a 6-1, 6-1 first singles win against USMMA while posting an 8-2 victory at first doubles.

Women's Tennis:
Goucher senior Mouna Attarha was a perfect 3-0 in singles com­petition for the Gophers this past week. She twice earned wins at fourth singles, posting a 6-0, 6-2 win against Juniata and a 6-3, 6-0 triumph against St. Mary's (Md.). Earlier in the week she cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at first singles in a Goucher win over Trinity (D.C.).

Men's Track:
Moravian senior Nathaniel Tussey helped the Greyhounds place second at the Lafayette/ESU Five-Way with a victory and a run­ner-up finish. Tussey placed first in the 400-meter hurldes, running an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 54.32 seconds. He was second in the 110-meter hurdles, but provisionally qualified in that event as well with a time of 14.73 seconds. He was also a member of the second-place 4x400 relay.

Women's Track:
Susquehanna freshman Alycia Woodruff was a top performer for Susquehanna at the Jim Taylor Invitational. She crossed the line in second place in the 1,500 running a time of 4:49.91 just a few seconds off the school record time she set the previous week. She then added a fifth-place finish in the 800 with a time of 2:24.38.
