Landmark Selects Players of the Week

MADISON, N.J. - Nine student-athletes have been honored as Landmark Conference Players of the Week for their respective sports following a full week of competition. The Landmark Player of the Week selections are made by the Landmark Conference office.

Men's Cross Country:
Scranton sophomore Chris Wasnetsky continued his strong early-season performances with a strong run at the Misericordia Cougar Classic. Wasnetsky placed second in a field of 103 runners to help the Scranton men place third as a team. He covered the 8K course in a time of 26:19, the fastest 8K time in the conference thus far this season.

Women's Cross Country:
Freshman Catherine Sacker ran one of the best races of her young career in helping Catholic to place second as a team at the NYU Invitational. She covered the 5K course in a time of 20:03.30 which ranks as the fastest time at that distance in the conference this season, and it was good for a fourth-place finish among the field of 110 runners.

Field Hockey
Offensive Player of the Week:

Juniata forward Paula Price helped the Eagles snap a six-match losing streak with a 3-2 win over York (Pa.) in the team’s only action of the week. Price scored two goals, both in the second half, to break a 1-1 tie and lead Juniata to the victory. It was her first multi-goal game of the season.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Moravian goalkeeper Maura Acox was strong in goal in a pair of contests for the Greyhounds. She stopped six saves in 96 minutes while allowing one goal in an overtime win over Gwynedd-Mercy and earlier in the week had seven saves in 97 minutes in an overtime loss. For the week she stopped 13 shots and posted a 1.08 goals against average with a .812 save percentage.

Men's Soccer:
Offensive Player of the Week:

Moravian senior forward Louis Dollarton totaled seven points over two matches, both Moravian victories, this past week. He scored twice, including the game-winner in double overtime, as Moravian outlasted Haverford 3-2. He then assisted on the first score and added a goal of his own in a 2-0 win over Lebanon Valley. Overall he either scored or assisted on four of Moravian’s five goals during the week.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Scranton goalkeeper Brandon Dombrowski helped the Royals earn two wins, including a victory in their Landmark opener. He recorded a career-high nine saves in a 1-0 double-overtime victory over Landmark foe USMMA. The clean sheet was his second shutout of the year. Earlier in the week he made a pair of saves in a 2-1 win over Lebanon Valley, in which the only goal was an own goal off a Scranton defender. His goals against average for the week was a stellar 0.46.

Women's Soccer:
Offensive Player of the Week:

Goucher sophomore Sisley Pumilia handled all of the offense for the Gophers as the team produced a perfect 2-0 week. She scored the lone goal of the match as Goucher pulled out a 1-0 win over Washington (Md.) and then struck twice for both of her team’s goals in a 2-0 win over Lancaster Bible. She has scored at least one goal in five of her team’s six matches this season.

Defensive Player of the Week:
From her sweeper position, Scranton freshman Tina Cognetti helped Scranton post a pair of shutouts in a 2-0 week. In a 4-0 victory over King’s she anchored a defense that held their foes without a shot over 90 minutes to post the shutout. She then helped the Royals then kept Misericordia off the scoreboard for 90 minutes, limiting the team to just six shots on goal in a 2-0 Scranton win.

Volleyball:
Scranton senior Jacqueline Pisano played four strong matches as the Royals went 4-0 and won three contests at the first Landmark round-robin of 2008. Pisano reached double figures in kills in all four matches on the week, and had three double-doubles in kills and digs. She knocked out a season-high 20 kills against Susquehanna and finished the week with 54 kills (4.15 per set) and a .467 hitting percentage. She also totaled 49 digs and four blocks. Pisano also became just the sixth player in Scranton history to reach the 1,000-kill plateau.
