Scranton Names New Head Trainer And Assistant AD

SCRANTON, Pa. - Toby Lovecchio, director of athletics at The
University of Scranton, has announced the appointment of Bryan
Lurie, MS, ATC, as head athletic trainer/assistant athletics
director.
He replaces Paul Cutrufello, who resigned earlier this year to
accept a faculty position at the university.
Lurie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training with
a minor in nutrition from West Chester University and a Master of
Science degree in nutrition and physical activity from James
Madison University. Since 2005, he has served an assistant
athletics trainer at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, a
23-sport NCAA Division I program.
He served as the head athletic trainer for the women’s
basketball and men’s lacrosse teams, assisted with the
football team, and served as the primary contact for the
women’s volleyball and men’s and women’s indoor
and outdoor track and field teams. Administratively, his duties
included scheduling, budgeting and first aid/CPR certification for
student athletic trainers.
While working on his master’s degree, Lurie served as an
assistant athletic trainer at Eastern Mennonite University, an NCAA
Division III program that sponsors 17 intercollegiate sports. He
shared equal coverage with the head athletic trainer in the sports
of baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s
and women’s cross-country, field hockey, men’s and
women’s soccer, softball, men’s and women’s
tennis, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track, and
men’s and women’s volleyball.
He has also worked numerous summer camps and clinics, including the
Point Guard College, a co-ed basketball camp for participants, ages
14-19, in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and Lauren’s First and Goal
Football Camp in Easton, Pennsylvania, a non-contact, one-day
instructional clinic for high school athletes to raise money for
Lauren’s First and Goal Foundation.
Lurie is an instructor of first aid and CPR/AED by the American Red
Cross; a licensed athletic trainer by the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania; a clinical instructor at East Stroudsburg University;
a certified athletic trainer by the National Athletic
Trainers’ Association Board of Certification; and certified
in first aid and CPR/AED by the American Red Cross. He is also a
member of the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society,
Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association, and the National
Athletic Trainers’ Association.
Lurie will begin his duties at the university in August. The
University of Scranton is an NCAA Division III program that
sponsors 19 intercollegiate sports, a majority of which compete in
the Landmark Conference.
