Landmark Selects Players of the Week

MADISON, N.J. - The Landmark Conference has recognized nine student-athletes as Players of the Week with just one week remaining in the regular season. The selections are made by the Landmark Conference office.

Men's Cross Country:
USMMA junior Keith Wagner was the first Mariner runner across the finish line at the CTC Championships hosted by Richard Stockton. Wagner placed third overall at the meet out of a field of 93 runners. He covered the 6K course in a time of 20:16.48, and helped USMMA to a second-place finish out of nine teams, which marked the team's highest finish at the yearly event since the 1967 season.

Women's Cross Country:
USMMA senior Callie Beeler earns Runner of the Week honors for the third time after a strong performance at the CTC Champi­onships. Beeler was the overall winner in the 75-runner field and helped USMMA finish in a tie for third place among eight teams. Beeler posted a time of 19:56.31 in the 5K race, which marked her second-fastest time at that distance this season.

Field Hockey
Offensive Player of the Week:

Scranton junior Charleigh LaFronz-Emberger helped Scranton capture a critical Landmark victory this past week. She scored twice in the second half to help stave off a Goucher rally as the Royals earned a 4-2 win in Landmark play. She also scored once for Scranton in a non-conference match against Muhlenberg. The three goals were her first three scores of the season.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Catholic goalie Marian Cassilly came up big in the cage in the Cardinal's only match of the week. She helped Catholic clinch a spot in the Landmark postseason as she recorded six saves in a 3-1 win over Moravian. The performance lowered her goals against average to 1.07, and marked the fourth time she has allowed one or fewer goals in a Landmark match.

Men's Soccer:
Offensive Player of the Week:

USMMA forward Kyle Luetjen played a big role in two Landmark victories that gave the Mariners the top seed in the upcoming postseason. He posted his first career hat trick when he knocked in three goals as the Mariners defeated Juniata 5-2. Earlier in the week he earned an assist on the game-winning goal as USMMA outlasted Drew 4-3 in overtime in a win that clinched the team's spot in the postseason.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Moravian goalkeeper Chris Nederostek was a major factor as the Greyhounds earned two wins to vault back into the postseason picture. Nederostek turned away seven shots to post his second shutout of the year as Moravian beat Catholic. Earlier in the week he recorded 11 saves as his team outlasted Scranton 2-1 in over­time. He made 18 saves for the week and conceded just one goal in 189 minutes of action in net.

Women's Soccer:
Offensive Player of the Week:

Scranton sophomore Beth Stephens earns Player of the Week sta­tus for the second time as the Royals clinched the top seed for the Landmark postseason with two victories. In a match-up against conference leader Moravian, Stephens scored both goals in a 2-0 Scranton victory. She then closed the week by adding an assist in a 6-0 win over Goucher.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Drew junior goalkeeper Ann Mularz came up big in Drew's only match of the week as the Rangers kept their postseason hopes alive with a 1-0 victory over Scranton. Mularz posted her fifth shutout of the season, and her third in conference play, by record­ing seven saves. The junior faced 11 shots overall in the contest.

Volleyball:
Catholic sophomore Carey Anne Nassib helped the Cardinals to a 4-1 record on the week, including three victories at the Susque­hanna Invitational. She averaged 5.24 kills and 5.59 digs per game on the week, and she reached double figures in kills in all five matches. Nassib had double-doubles in kills and digs in four of the five contests. Her top effort came in a five-game win over Richardt Stockton in which she pounded out 29 kills and added 33 digs. She also had 22 kills in a three-game win over Marymount. Nassib also contributed seven aces and five blocks.
