Landmark Names Players of the Week

MADISON, N.J. - Following the final week of regular season competition for several fall sports the Landmark Conference has recognized nine student-athletes as Players of the Week. The selections are made by the Landmark Conference office.

Men's Cross Country:
Susquehanna sophomore Paul Thistle went in the history books as the first individual Landmark Conference Champion as he crossed the finish line first at the innaugural Landmark Conference Cross Country Championship. Thistle was named the Most Outstanding Male Performer as he ran a time of 27:37 over the 8,000-meter course to claim the victory. His individual effort helped Susque­hanna also claim the Landmark team championship.

Women's Cross Country:
Susquehanna freshman Alycia Woodruff was the first runner across the finish line in the innaugural Landmark Conference Cross Country Championship. Woodruff made history by covering the 6,000-meter course in a time of 24:27 to best the second-place runner by eight seconds and claim the first individual conference title. Her performance helped the Crusaders place fourth overall in the team standings.

Field Hockey
Offensive Player of the Week:

Drew forward Lizz Law was an offensive force for the Rangers as the team earned a crucial Landmark win. Law played a part in all five goals as Drew clinched a postseason berth with a 5-0 win over Moravian. She produced a hat-trick in the match, and assisted on Drew's other two scores, to earn eight points in the match. Law also had Drew's only shot in its midweek match against national­ly-ranked Rowan.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Goucher freshman Barbara Koziel closed out her regular season with two strong efforts for the Gophers. Koziel registered two defensive saves in each of Goucher's last two matches on the year, bringing her total to seven for the season. She helped deny a pair of goals in Goucher's season finale against Juniata, and early in the week cleared two balls off the line against non-conference foe Villa Julie.

Men's Soccer:
Offensive Player of the Week:

Goucher sophomore forward Julien Greco ended the regular season with a flurry of offensive fireworks. He knocked in the game-winning goal as Goucher outlasted Juniata 3-2 in the team's Landmark finale. Greco also had a hand in all three goals as he tallied two scores and an assist in a 3-1 win over Gwynedd-Mercy. He also scored once in a non-conference victory over Lancaster Bible.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Drew junior defender Dan Bonder played a key role as Drew closed the regular season with a pair of wins. In its Landmark finale against Moravian he helped the Ranger defense limit the opponent to just three shots on goal in a 1-0 win. Earlier in the week Bonder was key as Drew blanked Eastern 1-0, and held the opponent to just four shots, 12 below its season average.

Women's Soccer:
Offensive Player of the Week:

Juniata freshman forward Caitlin Bigelow closed the regular season with two strong efforts. In Juniata's season-ending win over Goucher she found the back of the net once, and added a pair of assists as Juniata clinched the program's first ever postseason berth with a 7-0 win. Earlier in the week she netted a hat-trick in a non-conference victory over Mount Aloysius.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Moravian junior goalie Caitlin Corrigan claims Landmark De­fender of the Week honors for the fourth time after recording two strong efforts in goal. She claimed her 10th shutout of the year as the Greyhounds closed their Landmark schedule with a 2-0 win over Drew. She had a pair of saves in the match. Earlier in the week she made eight saves while allowing a pair of goals in a non-conference match against Eastern.

Men's Swimming:
Scranton junior Jack Cook was a standout performer for the Royals in their season-opening victory over Cabrini. Cook claimed an individual win in th 200 IM with a time of 2:09.40 and also touched the wall first in a time of 56.75 in the 100 backstroke. His leadoff leg in the 200 medley relay helped the Royals post a time of 2:00.31 to win the event.

Women's Swimming:
Junior Lauren Hosko helped Scranton earn a season-opening victory over Cabrini by claiming wins in several individual events. She won the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:07.91 and turned in a time of 1:06.09 in the 100 backstroke to claim the victory in that event as well. 

Volleyball:
Moravian senior outside hitter Jenna Wallace turned in several strong performance in the last regular season matches of her ca­reer. Wallace topped 10 kills in each of Moravian's five matches, with a best of 23 coming in a four-game match against Elizabeth­town. She also notched three double-doubles in kills and digs, with a best of 18 digs coming in a win over Alvernia. She aver­aged 4.14 kills, 2.71 digs for the week while adding 12 blocks and nine digs to go with a .246 hitting percentage as the Greyhounds went 2-3.
