Conference Athletes of the Week Announced

MADISON, N.J. - The Landmark Conference has selected eight Athletes of the Week after another full week of winter sports competition. The Athlete of the Week selections are made by the conference office.

Men's Basketball:
Susquehanna senior Kevin Cuff helped the Crusaders remain unbeaten in Landmark play with a pair of strong performances. He scored a season-high 28 points on 11-of-15 shooting and grabbed five rebounds as Susquehanna topped Catholic on the road. He followed that with a 14-point, nine-rebound effort in a road win over Goucher. Cuff was 5-of-11 from three-point range on the week, including a 5-of-8 effort against the Cardinals. He aver­aged 21 points, seven rebounds and shot 58 percent over the two games, while adding five assists and a steal.

Women's Basketball:
Catholic University freshman Brianna Peterson helped the Car­dinals to a 2-1 record this past week. She scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Catholic earned its first Landmark win of 2008 by stopping Susquehanna. She then posted 16 points and eight rebounds against Landmark foe Juniata. Earlier in the week she helped Catholic halt a seven-game losing skid by scoring 13 points and pulling down nine rebounds against Frostburg State. She averaged 20 points per game in the two conference games, and 18 points per contest for the week. She also shot 47 percent from the field and averaged 8.3 rebounds to go along with three steals and two assists.  

Men's Field:
Ozzie Brown of Moravian helped the Greyhounds finish fourth among a 10-team field of primarily Division I teams at the John Covert Classic hosted by Lehigh. Brown won the long jump in a leap of 7.01 meters, a distance that provisionally qualified him for the NCAA Championships. He also set new school records in the 60-meter hurdles and the 60-meter dash at the meet, and added a fifth-place finish in the 200.  

Women's Field:
Kelly Szal of Catholic University put together several strong performances at the Lebanon Valley Invitational. She posted a first-place finish in the triple jump at the event with a leap of 9.70 meters. She followed that up with a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a best leap of 4.56 meters. She also added a sixth-place finish on the track in the 55-meter hurdles.  

Men's Swimming & Diving:
Senior Jeff Fornadley won a pair of events in his final collegiate dual meet to help Susquehanna defeat McDaniel. Fornadley touched the wall first in the 100 freestyle in a time of 48.52 and also was the winner in the 200 freestyle with a mark of 1:52.29. He also was a part of the winning 400 freestyle relay team which helped Susquehanna win the meet and post an unbeaten regular season.

Women's Swimming & Diving:
Freshman Lauren Snyder earned four individual event wins over two meets to help Susquehanna capture a pair of dual-meet victories. She swam season-best times of 11:37.03 and 5:38.66 in the 1,000 and 500 freestyle races respectively to win both events in a dual meet against McDaniel. Earlier in the week she won the 200 and 500 freestyle races as the Crusaders topped Landmark foe Juniata.

Men's Track:
Susquehanna's Paul Thistle turned in a memorable performance at the Bucknell Two-Day Invitational. Thistle claimed a victory in the 5,000 besting the field by 27 seconds in the win. His time of 14:57.20 broke the Susquehanna record in the event by more six seconds, and was just 2.2 seconds shy of an NCAA qualifying time.

Women's Track:
Moravian's Rachel Beck contributed several strong performances to help the Greyhounds place sixth in an 11-team field of primarily Division I teams at the John Covert Classic hosted by Lehigh. Beck was fourth in the 60-meter dash in a time of 8.13 seconds, and then she earned another two points for the team with a sixth-place showing in the 200. She ran a time of 26.73 seconds in the 200.
