Landmark Picks Conference Players of the Week
Madison, N.J. - Following the first full weekend of conference
competition the Landmark Conference has recognized nine
student-athletes as Players of the Week. The selections are made by
the Landmark Conference office.
Men's Cross Country:
Junior Keith Wagner claims Landmark Runner of the Week
honors for the second-consecutive week after a strong performance
at the Bard Invitational. He crossed the finish line first at the
event, the first individual title of his career, besting 120
runners in the field. He covered the 4.78-mile course in a time of
26:52.00 and his first-place finish helped USMMA win the 13-team
event.
Women's Cross Country:
Junior Kayla Teeling was the top runner for the Greyhounds as the
team claimed a victory at the Misericordia Cougar Classic. She
placed second in the race among a field of 83 runners, to help
Moravian place first out of nine teams. She ran a time of 19:39.00
over the 5,000-meter course, and that time matches the fastest 5K
time posted by a Landmark runner this season.
Field Hockey
Offensive Player of the Week:
Senior Karolyn Holody had a hand in every Scranton goal this past
week as the Royals enjoyed a pair of victories. She scored the only
goal of the contest as her team defeated Ithaca 1-0 in
overtime early in the week. Then in Scranton's 2-1 win over
Susquehanna in the Landmark opener she scored once to tie the
match at 1-1 and then assisted on the game-winning score which came
with just two minutes left in regulation.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Sophomore defender Giovanna Thomas made one huge play and anchored
a Gopher defense that helped Goucher earn a victory in its Landmark
opener. Thomas recorded one defensive save to prevent a goal, and
was a main cog in a defense that kept visiting Drew off the
scoreboard in a 1-0 Goucher victory. The win was the first
conference victory for Goucher in seven seasons dating back to its
previous conference affiliation.
Men's Soccer:
Offensive Player of the Week:
Junior forward Kyle Luetjen provided plenty of offense as the
Mariners captured their first Landmark victory. Luetjen scored two
goals and added an assist in USMMA's 5-2 win over Catholic. He
opened the scoring with a goal just two minutes into the contest
and then found the net again in the 25th minute.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Freshman Joe Kohler helped Juniata post a perfect 2-0 record this
week, including a road victory in its conference opener. Kohler
played all 90 minutes in net and recorded one save while allowing
one goal as the Eagles topped Moravian 3-1. Earlier in the week he
did not allow a goal and recorded one save in 45 minutes as Juniata
downed Mount Aloysius.
Women's Soccer:
Offensive Player of the Week:
Sophomore forward Beth Stephens accounted for all four Scranton
goals as she helped the Royals post a pair of victories. She scored
twice as Scranton rallied to earn a 2-1 victory over King's and
then had both tallies in a 2-0 win over Susquehanna in her team's
Landmark Conference opener.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Junior goalkeeper Ann Mularz did not concede a goal over two
matches as the Rangers went 1-1 on the week. She stopped seven
shots in helping the team earn a 0-0 draw against Manhattanville,
including two crucial saves in overtime to preserve the tie. She
then turned away the only shot she faced as Drew opened
Landmark play with a 5-0 win over Goucher. She played a total
of 200 minutes without allowing a goal on the week.
Volleyball:
Senior setter Emily McGlynn was a key factor as Catholic
went 4-0 this past week, including earning three wins in the first
Landmark Conference round-robin weekend. McGlynn averaged
12.18 assists per game for the week, with her high of 42 assists
coming as Catholic topped Scranton 3-1 in its final match at the
Landmark event. McGlynn topped 30 assists in three of the
matches on the week and helped Catholic hit .243 or better as a
team in three matches. She also contributed five 19 service aces
including three matches with five aces. She added 14 digs, six
kills and five blocks over the course of the week to help Catholic
sit in second place in the Landmark standings.
