Landmark Selects Players of the Week

Madison, N.J. - Following the first weekend of competition within the new conference the Landmark Conference has recognized nine student-athletes as Players of the Week. The selections are made by the Landmark Conference office. The conference chooses offensive and defensive players of the week in field hockey, men's soccer and women's soccer, along with a player of the week in volleyball, men's cross country and women's cross country.

Field Hockey
Offensive Player of the Week:

Senior Ryan Hoover produced timely offense for Drew as the Rangers picked up two wins as part of its Fall Festival. Hoover scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the home team a 2-1 win over Cabrini in the season opener. She then picked up the assist on the game-winning goal for the Rangers in a 2-1 victory over Roanoke on the second day of the Festival. Hoover forced a turnover and made the pass into the scoring circle to set-up the winning goal in the 57th minute.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Senior Hillary DeCataldo played a major role in helping Drew open the season with two victories as part of its Fall Festival. The senior picked up the assist on the game-winning goal in Drew's 2-1 win over Cabrini on the opening day of the event. She then made a key defensive play as she cleared the potential game-tying goal off the line in the waning seconds to preserve Drew's 2-1 win over Roanoke on Sunday. DeCataldo's defense helped the Rangers limit their opponents to just two goals and 17 shots over the two-day event.

Men's Soccer:
Offensive Player of the Week:

Freshman Andrew Bull got the 2007 season off to a roaring start as he scored six goals in two matches to help Goucher start the season 2-0. Bull came off the bench to punch home four goals in the Gophers' 12-0 season-opening win over Gallaudet. He then added a pair of scores, including the game-winning goal as Goucher rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Penn State-Berks 5-1.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Freshman Jeff Rogers helped Drew claim the title of its season-opening Fall Festival with a pair of strong outings in goal. Rogers stopped one shot as Drew defeated SUNY-New Paltz in the opener, and then posted his second shutout of the young season when he recorded two saves in a 4-0 triumph over Centenary. His two clean sheets marked the first time since 2001 that Drew has recorded shutouts in the first two matches of the season.

Women's Soccer:
Offensive Player of the Week:

Junior Karen Florio was named to the All-Tournament Team as Susquehanna claimed the title of its own Susquehanna Classic. Florio entered the season with just one career goal in her two previous years.
