2008-09 Landmark Conference News

  • Landmark Honors Second Semester Senior Scholar Athletes
    June 30, 2009
    The Landmark Conference has chosen fourteen student-athletes as Landmark Senior Scholar Athletes for their respective winter and spring sports. A committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors and sports information directors selected the recipients, choosing one senior from each of the sports sponsored by the conference. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and are selected based on their accomplishments in all areas of college life including athletics, academics and other extracurricular activities. It is the most exclusive award given out by the conference with just 20 honorees for each academic year.

    United States Merchant Marine Academy Director of Athletics Sue Petersen Lubow was one of four administrators honored Saturday by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics as Division III athletics directors of the year.

    The Landmark Conference has announced that 32 student-athletes have been honored with selection to the 2009 Spring Landmark All-Academic Team. Two male and two female athletes from each of the eight Landmark institutions were selected for the team which honors athletes who have excelled athletically and academically.

  • Moravian Repeats As Landmark President's All Sports Cup Winner

    Just as it did when it claimed the inaugural Landmark President’s All Sports Cup last season Moravian College rode a dominating performance in the spring sports season to the top of the standings to win the 2008-09 Landmark Conference President’s All Sports Cup. The Greyhounds finished with a score of 7.222, well ahead of the score of 6.719 held by The University of Scranton which placed second. Susquehanna University finished in third place in the standings with a total of 6.538 while Juniata College finished fourth with a mark of 5.985.

    After an extremely competitive second season of Landmark Conference competition 16 student-athletes have been selected to the 2009 All-Landmark Conference Men’s Tennis Team as selected by the conference’s eight head coaches. The team consists of a first and second team, with six singles players and three doubles pairings per team, and the voting took place prior to the start of the Landmark postseason.
  • Cardinals Open NCAA Play With Overtime Win

    In a thrilling first round game of the NCAA Championships, the Catholic University of America women's lacrosse team defeated the Falcons of Messiah College by a score of 9-8. With the win, the team improves to 16-3 overall, and will advance to the Regional Semifinals of the NCAA Tournament

  • Landmark Sending Four Teams To NCAA Tournaments

    A total of four Landmark Conference teams have earned the right to represent the conference in NCAA Division III Tournament play as announced Monday morning. First-round play in the Division III Men’s Lacrosse and Women’s Lacrosse Tournaments will begin on Wednesday, with regional action in the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament starting on Thursday. Game times for all the first-round games have not yet been released.

    Junior pinch runner Katie Flood scampered home with the winning run on an error on a ball hit by senior catcher Deanna Mangieri as top seed and host Moravian won the 2009 Landmark Conference Tournament Championship with a 6-5, nine-inning victory over second seed Susquehanna University at a rainy Blue & Grey Field.
  • Late Goals Push USMMA Men's Lacrosse To landmark Crown

    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy lacrosse team brought home its first Landmark Conference Championship with an 8-6 victory over the University of Scranton. In the processes, Brennan Dougherty became the All-Time Assists Leader in school history with 109. Brian Flannery led the Mariners on the day with two goals and one assists while Keegan Boyle added 10 saves.
  • Drew Men's Tennis Collects Another Conference Title
    May 02, 2009
    Drew men’s tennis made it nine straight conference championships as it defeated Moravian, 6-3, in the Landmark Finals. The Rangers fought back from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play to take five of the six singles matches. Elliot Smego’s valiant effort at fifth singles clinched the win for the Rangers after Jeff Marshall, Matt Brisott and Jon Pransky had already picked up points.
  • Cardinals Win Thrilling Final To Earn Women's Lacrosse Landmark Championship
    May 02, 2009
    The Catholic University women's lacrosse team avenged last month's loss to Drew University by defeating the Rangers 11-10 in a thrilling Landmark Conference Championship game Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 14-3 overall, earning their second conference championship in as many years.
