Landmark Names Spring All-Academic Team

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has announced the selection of 32 student-athletes to the 2013 Spring Landmark All-Academic Team. The top two male and two female student-athletes from each of the eight Landmark institutions who met the award requirements have been honored.

Nominees could compete in any of the Landmark spring sports and must be a sophomore or older with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

The senior class was the most represented on the All-Academic Team with 23 selections. There are six from the junior class while three sophomores were also selected to the team. In addition all eight spring sports sponsored by the Landmark Conference are represented with at least one selection and nine are repeat selections after being honored previously on a Spring All-Academic Team. The Landmark Conference selects an All-Academic Team for each of the three athletics seasons during the year.

Shawn Brubaker (Catholic, Men’s Outdoor Track & Field) is a two-time Second Team All-Landmark selection. He is a three-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll recipient.

Laura Kinley (Catholic, Women’s Outdoor Track & Field) won the 1500 meters and finished second in the 800 meters at the Landmark Championship meet to earn All-Landmark honors. She is a two-year team captain and three-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll recipient.

Chris McCloud (Catholic, Baseball) was named First Team All-Landmark this season after leading the team in home runs and RBI. He is a three-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll recipient.

Kelly Neligan (Catholic, Women’s Lacrosse) is a Second Team All-Landmark and Second Team IWLCA All-Region defender. She has been named to the IWLCA North/South Senior All-Star game and led the Cardinals in caused turnovers with 21. Neligan also earned Landmark Academic Honor Roll recognition this year.

Jeramie Barletta (Drew, Softball) started every single game of her career at shortstop, playing in 140 consecutive games. She was a First Team All-Conference selection in 2013 while receiving CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. Barletta is a Baldwin Honors Scholar and been on Drew’s Dean’s List every semester at Drew. She was named the 2013 Drew Softball MVP and recipient of the Sherman Plato Scholar award annually given out to the school’s top scholar-athlete. She has been a three-time Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll recipient in softball and two-time honoree in basketball and soccer.

C.C. Carlini (Drew, Women’s Lacrosse) is a goaltender for both the field hockey and women’s lacrosse team. She started every game in cage for the Rangers this season and is a two-time Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll selection. Carlini boasts career highs in saves and save percentage.

Chris DelMaestro (Drew, Baseball) appeared in 88 games for the Rangers in four seasons. A three-time Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll member, DelMaestro has been on Drew’s Dean’s List every semester. He is a member of the National Honor Society in Neuroscience and served as a 2013 team captain.

Scott Humphreys (Drew, Men’s Lacrosse) has earned All-Academic Team honors for the second consecutive year. He finished his career appearing in 59 games and scored 93 goals and tallied 123 points in his four years at Drew. He was recipient of the Larry Horner Athletic Leadership award given out by the Athletic Department. He has been a Dean’s List honoree every semester and was inducted into the History and Psychology Honor Society. He was First Team All-Conference selection in 2012 and a Second Team selection in 2013.

Bryce Carson (Goucher, Men’s Lacrosse) is a First Team All-Landmark defenseman credited with 36 caused turnovers in his final season with the Gophers, more than twice as many as any other player on the roster. He ranked second on the team and third in the conference with 60 ground balls. Carson is a three-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll recipient.

Jaclyn Kellon (Goucher, Women’s Outdoor Track & Field) became the first female athlete from Goucher to win five outdoor track and field conference titles during her career. She broke the existing meet, conference, facility and school outdoor records with her 400 meter hurdles time of 1:03.79. She’s a four-time champion in the 400 hurdles and she is a three-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll recipient.

Addie Maxwell (Goucher, Women’s Tennis) was a first-team selection for singles on the 2013 All-Landmark Conference Women’s Tennis after going 15-5 while generally holding down the No. 4 spot in the line-up. The 15 singles wins ranked second on the team behind Ariel Lin. Maxwell is a two-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll recipient.

David Spivey (Goucher, Men’s Tennis) was a First Team All-Landmark selection in doubles and a Second Team pick in singles on the 2013 All-Landmark Conference Men’s Tennis Team. In singles, he won nine times playing at No. 2 in Goucher’s singles line-up and produced a 6-5 record at No. 1 singles. Spivey was this year’s recipient of Goucher’s Scholar-Athlete Award, which goes to a junior who has maintained high standards of academic achievement and consistently demonstrated varied and admirable participation in athletics and extracurricular activities.

Brice Morey (Juniata, Men’s Tennis) was named Second Team All-Landmark in singles and doubles. He finished with a team best 19-3 singles record and 16-7 in doubles. Morey helped lead the team to a record-tying season in wins. He has been named to the Landmark Academic Honor Roll three times.

Elliott Perow (Juniata, Men’s Tennis) was named Second Team All-Landmark in singles after going 4-3 in the league. He finished 8-5 overall at the No. 2 position. Perow helped lead the team to a record-tying season in wins. He has been named to the Landmark Academic Honor Roll twice.

Angela Shaffer (Juniata, Women’s Outdoor Track & Field) was named the top senior female student-athlete at Juniata this year. She won the high jump and 100 meter hurdles at the Landmark Championship meet. She is a four-time outdoor high jump champion and three-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll recipient.

Heather Waring (Juniata, Women’s Tennis) earned first-team All-Landmark honors in doubles after going 5-1 at the No. 1 position against Landmark opponents. She finished 13-9 overall in doubles and went 5-5 at No. 1 singles in final 10 matches. Waring helped lead the team to tie the program record in wins.

Jacob Donchez (Moravian, Men’s Outdoor Track & Field) helped Moravian to its sixth straight Landmark Conference Outdoor Championship by placing sixth in both the 5K and 10K at the 2013 Landmark Championships. Donchez is a nine-time member of the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll, and he is a seven-time member of the Dean’s List at Moravian.

Travis King (Moravan, Men’s Outdoor Track & Field) was a Landmark All-Conference First Team honoree in the 4x100-meter relay and a Second Team selection as the runner-up in the triple jump at the Landmark Championships as Moravian won its six team title. He is a six-time member of the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll (three winter and three spring). King is also a three-time Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll selection as a member of the Moravian football team.

Shannen Mohr (Moravian, Softball) helped Moravian to its 19th straight postseason appearance and 13th straight 30-win season. An All-American as a sophomore, Mohr hit .295 this season with 18 hits, 8 runs, 4 doubles and 13 RBI, and Mohr finished her career with a school record 74 walks. She was a three-time Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll selection and was also honored on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar-Athlete Team.

Katie Zien (Moravian, Women’s Tennis) who was named to the 2013 Women’s Tennis All-Conference Second Team in singles, missed the fall portion of the season while studying abroad but she returned this spring to post a 6-3 record at second singles with a 3-3 mark in Landmark matches. Zien, who was on the All-Conference First Team in doubles last year, also had a 6-3 record in doubles this season, and Zien has a career singles mark of 28-17 for the Greyhounds. Zien is a two-time member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll and has been a Dean’s List student four times.

Robert Della Polla (Scranton, Baseball) is a three-time Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll recipient and two-time all-Academic team selection.  A four-year letterman, he has appeared in 41 games as a pitcher and started 29 times, with a career record of 15-11 and an ERA of 4.95.  He has also recorded 188 strikeouts in 180 innings pitched and has 11 complete games in his career.  He is a member of two Landmark Conference tournament-qualifying teams, including the 2011 squad that advanced to the championship bracket.

Tim McGurrin (Scranton, Men’s Tennis) has picked up numerous honors for his exploits on the court and in the classroom.  On the court, he has been named first-team all-Landmark Conference in both singles and doubles in each of the last three seasons while helping the Royals to four straight Landmark Conference championship match appearances.  A three-time member of the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll and 2012 member of the conference’s all-Academic team, he has served as team captain in each of the past two seasons.

Kathleen Smart (Scranton, Women’s Lacrosse) is selected to the all-Academic team for the second straight season.  A two-time team captain and three-time Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll Recipient, she is a four-year letter-winner.  She finished her career with a 10.89 goals against average, with 29 victories, 444 saves, and .462 save percentage.  She was a key member of three Landmark Conference tournament-qualifying teams.

Lindsay Ward (Scranton, Women’s Tennis) is selected to the all-Academic team for the first time in her career.  She has, however, been named to the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll in each of the last three seasons.  She is a member of two Landmark Conference championship teams and currently has 15 wins in doubles and four in singles in her playing career.

Alyssa Cantalini (Susquehanna, Softball) is a two-year starter for the Crusaders. In 2013, the team won its first-ever Landmark Conference title and earned bid to NCAA Tournament. Cantalini was named First Team All-Conference and Second Team NFCA All-Region. She is a two-time Dean’s List honoree and was recently named to the Landmark Academic Honor Roll.

Sal D’Angelo (Susquehanna, Men’s Outdoor Track & Field) is a three-year member of the cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field teams. He has been a member of the Dean’s List and Academic Honor Roll every semester eligible.  D’Angelo earned All-Landmark Second Team honors in the 4 x 400 relay and set personal records in the 800 meter and 1500 meter run.

Emily Stankaitis (Susquehanna, Women’s Lacrosse) is a four-year starter for the women’s lacrosse team. Stankaitis and the Crusaders won their first-ever Landmark Conference championship this season and earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Tournament. She was a First-Team All-Landmark Conference player as well as an IWLCA All-Region and All-America recipient.

Brian Sowyrda (Susquehanna, Men’s Lacrosse) is a four-year member of the men’s lacrosse team with 44 career games played. He had a career year in 2013 with 27 ground balls, 22 caused turnovers and two assists and was named Second Team All-Landmark. Susquehanna won its first-ever conference title and earned first-ever bid to NCAA Tournament this season.

Michael Ackerman (USMMA, Men’s Lacrosse) scored the game winning goal in the Landmark Conference semifinals against top-seeded Goucher. He served as a team captain in his senior season and currently ranks 10th academically in the class of 2013 at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Danny Collins (USMMA, Baseball) was named First Team All-Landmark this season. He was also chosen as a CoSIDA Academic All-District First-Team selection. Collins finished the season with a team-leading 39 RBI and ranked second in the Landmark Conference with a .403 batting average.

Elizabeth Coulter (USMMA, Women’s Outdoor Track & Field) competed in the 5000 meter event at the Landmark Conference Championships immediately after returning from her time at sea. She is a two-time All-Academic Team member after earning honors last fall as well.

Gretchen Holoubek (USMMA, Women’s Outdoor Track & Field) reached ECAC qualifying standards in the 5000 meters this season. She set seven new Academy records in the 2012-13 season including four outdoor events. Holoubek has been named to the All-Academic Team all three seasons this year.
