Landmark Announces Players of the Week

TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference has released the Players of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Bryson Fonville
Catholic (So., G, Greensboro, N.C.)

Fonville had a very strong week leading Catholic to a 2-0 record and keeping the Cardinals atop the Landmark standings. In Wednesday's battle for first place against Juniata, Fonville played the entire game without a turnover on his way to a career-high 33 points. He was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line and dished out four assists while grabbing three rebounds as the Cardinals took down the Eagles on the road. On Saturday, the sophomore point guard played conductor for the Cardinals offense that scored a season-high 97 points against Moravian. Fonville had 26 points and handed out eight assists in addition to his five rebounds. For the week, Fonville shot 64.7 percent from the floor while averaging 26.0 points and 6.0 assists. In 72 minutes of action, he only committed one turnover.

Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Emily Grabiak
Catholic (Sr., G, Haddonfield, N.J.)

It was a career week for Grabiak, who continues to shine for Catholic. The Cardinals are currently 11-3 and have not lost a game since November. The senior captain notched back-to-back double doubles while averaging 28 points, 12.5 rebounds, 5.0 steals, and 3.0 assists in huge wins over Juniata and Moravian. On Wednesday, Grabiak scored a career-high 33 points on 57.9 percent shooting, and had 10 rebounds as the Cardinals took down the Eagles. In the team's upset of Moravian, Grabiak hit the game-tying shot to send the game into overtime. From there, the Haddonfield, N.J. native scored eight points and had two steals to seal the game. She finished with 23 points and a career-high 15 rebounds while tying her career-high of seven steals. It was her seventh double-double of the season.

Men's Swimming Player of the Week
Kevin Lindgren
Merchant Marine (Jr., Palm City, Fla.)

Lindgren took home four first place finishes including three individual events in Merchant Marine’s meet against Coast Guard on Saturday. The junior won the 100 backstroke (51.99), 200 backstroke (1:57.94) and the 100 butterfly (52.67) to help propel the Mariners to the 183.5-110.5 victory. Lindgren also joined teammates to win the 200 medley relay in 1:36.48. His 100 backstroke is the fastest in the Landmark this season and his 200 fly time is second fastest.

Women's Swimming Player of the Week
Sara Franciscovich
Scranton (Sr., Frederick, Md.)

In the final home meet of her career, Franciscovich won three individual events and anchored the second-place finishing 400 free relay to lead Scranton to a 157-103 victory over Misericordia. She won the 50 freestyle (25.67), 200 freestyle (2:02.26) and the 200 backstroke (2:15.81). With three victories Saturday, Franciscovich now has 53 first-place individual finishes in dual-meet competition.

Men's Indoor Track Player of the Week
Kwane Hayle
Susquehanna (So., Poughkeepsie, N.Y.)

Susquehanna’s Kwane Hayle won the 60 meter dash on Friday in 7.01 seconds. He also joined teammates to win the 4x200 meter relay in 1:33.86. The relay time is the fastest in the Landmark this season and would rank third fastest in all of 2012-13 results.

Brian Etz
Susquehanna (Jr., Cortland, N.Y.)

Etz won the long jump at Susquehanna’s Orange & Maroon Classic. The junior leaped 6.29 meters on his third attempt to win the event and rank third in the Landmark so far this season. He also competed in the 60 meter hurdles and placed seventh in 9.51 seconds.

Women's Indoor Track Player of the Week
Ashley West
Susquehanna (So., East Hampton, N.Y.)

West competed in two events at Susquehanna’s Orange & Maroon Classic on Friday. She won the 800 meters in 2:23.00, just surpassing her time in the same meet last year (2:23.94). West also ran the 4x400 meter relay and helped the Crusaders place fourth in 4:26.79. She now holds the Landmark’s top times in the 800 meters and mile this season.

   
Women's Indoor Field Player of the Week
Julie Scales
Susquehanna (Sr., Berkeley Heights, N.J.)

Scales won the pole vault for Susquehanna at the Orange & Maroon Classic this weekend. She cleared 3.04 meters on her first attempt to win the event. The mark is second best in the Landmark this season and just shy of her personal best of 3.05 meters.
