Landmark Announces Players of the Week

TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference has released the Players of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.

Baseball Player of the Week
Taylor Luckenbill
Susquehanna (Fr., OF, Pottsville, Pa.)

Luckenbill was 8-for-13 this week for a .615 batting average. He helped Susquehanna go 3-0 this week in a Landmark series against Merchant Marine. Luckenbill had at least one hit in each game including a 5-for-8 performance in Sunday’s 15-inning finale.  He added five RBI and a stolen base for the Crusaders.

   
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Brett Wagner
Moravian (So., RHP, Bangor, Pa.)

Wagner tossed his first career shutout as the Greyhounds posted a 10-0 win in the second game of a Landmark Conference doubleheader vs. Drew University to earn a split with the Rangers. Wagner scattered two hits while striking out three batters. He also had two putouts and an assist in four chances in the field.

Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
Walter Hickey
Catholic (Sr., M, Thornwood, N.Y.)

Hickey tallied six points in Catholic's 19-7 win over Merchant Marine. The senior midfielder rattled off four goals and handed out two assists in the conference victory. Hickey leads the team with 21 goals this season.

   
Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Harrison Holak
Catholic (So., GK, Doylestown, Pa.)

Holak turned away 13 shots in Catholic's 19-7 win over Merchant Marine. The sophomore helped stymie the Mariner's offense, allowing just one goal in nearly 35 minutes of play as the Cardinals turned a 3-2 deficit into a 14-4 lead. Holak also scooped up two groundballs as Catholic moved into a tie for third place in the Landmark.

Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
Michelle McGinniss
Susquehanna (Sr., M, Randolph, N.J.)

McGinnis helped to lift Susquehanna to a 15-5 victory over Scranton on Saturday. The senior midfielder scored three goals and added two assists. She also grabbed five draw controls, four ground balls and one caused turnover in the win.

   
Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Victoria Neill
Catholic (Jr., D/M, Voorhees, N.J.)

Neill had a strong week for the Cardinals with 11 ground balls and eight caused turnovers to go with three draw controls. She capped off Catholic’s come from behind win over Mary Washington, who was receiving votes in the latest national poll, with the game-winning goal in the final minute of play. In a battle with No. 15 Washington & Lee, Neill scooped up a game-high seven ground balls and caused five turnovers in a narrow 12-9 loss.

Softball Player of the Week
Phylicia Pellot
Drew (Fr., OF, Pennsauken, N.J.)

Pellot went a combined 7-for-11 at the plate this week to boast a .636 batting average with five RBI. She helped Drew earn a 3-1 record including a split against Scranton. Pellot was 3-for-6 against the Royals and drove home two runs in Drew’s 8-3 win.

   
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Keli Krause
Elizabethtown (So., RHP/3B, Schwenksville, Pa.)

Krause started twice and made one relief appearances this past week for Elizabethtown. She pitched five strong innings against Catholic in game one on Saturday, only allowing one earned run with six hits and a strikeout. Krause came back and pitched a gem the following day against Juniata, no-hitting the Eagles and getting the win in game two. It was the Blue Jays’ first no-hitter, combined or solo, since 2002. She struck out seven in the 5-0 victory and finished the week with a 0.55 ERA. Krause also went 6-for-13 at the plate including 3-for-4 with an RBI in game one at Juniata on Sunday, a 14-5 victory.

Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Matt Prendergast
Scranton (Fr., Flanders, N.J.)

Prendergast earned five victories as the Royals went 3-1 during the week, including a win in a Landmark Conference match at Goucher on Sunday. He opened the week with a three-set singles victory over Washington & Jefferson. After dropping singles and doubles matches in a 5-4 loss to Springfield on Wednesday, he bounced back to post singles and doubles wins in a 6-3 victory over FDU-Florham on Friday. The Royals returned to the Northeast to take on Goucher on the road Sunday, and he posted two victories in a 6-3 victory over the Gophers.

Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Megan Azzalina
Scranton (Jr., Easton, Pa.)

Azzalina went 7-1 this week as the Royals finished 3-2 during the week, including a Landmark Conference win over Goucher. She had a singles win in a 5-4 loss to Carroll (Wis.) on Tuesday and a doubles win in a 5-4 loss to Bloomsburg on Wednesday. Azzalina then had two wins in an 8-1 victory over Washington & Jefferson later in the day on Wednesday. She wrapped up the team's spring break trip with a doubles victory against FDU-Florham on Friday. In the win over Goucher, she was one of four Royals with two victories in a 9-0 win.

Men's Outdoor Track Player of the Week
Tyler Mandley Juniata (Jr., Altoona, Pa.)

Mandley swept both hurdle events at the Juniata Invitational on Saturday. He won the 110 meter hurdles in 15.86 seconds and finished the 400 meter hurdles in 57.22 seconds. Mandley’s 110 meter hurdles time was a personal best and the 400 meter hurdles time would have been the fastest all season in 2013.

   
Men's Outdoor Field Player of the Week
Timothy Lorah Moravian (Sr., Middlesex, N.J.)

Lorah turned in the winning toss of 63.62 meters (208 feet, nine inches) on his opening javelin throw at the Golden Rams Invitational hosted by West Chester University of Pennsylvania. The All-American jumped to first on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list in the event. Lorah also had throws of 52.44 meters and 60.01 meters in the preliminaries and a toss of 58.69 meters in the final before fouling on his final two attempts.

Women's Outdoor Track Player of the Week

Jasmine Mitchell

Susquehanna (Fr., Harrisburg, Pa.)

Mitchell took home top honors in the 100 and 200 meters at the Juniata Invitational on Saturday. The freshman won the 100 meters in 12.54 seconds, the ninth fastest time in Division III, and the fastest in the Landmark including last year’s results. Mitchell finished the 200 in 26.37 seconds.

 

 

Women's Outdoor Field Player of the Week
Gabby Alguire Susquehanna (Fr., Tunkhannock, Pa.)
Alguire won the javelin at the Juniata Invitational with a record breaking mark. She set a new Susquehanna and Landmark record with a toss of 42.74 meters. Alguire ranks fifth in NCAA Division III so far this season.
