Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has released the Athletes of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.

Men’s Basketball
The University of Scranton extended its win streak to seven, as the Royals (7-0, 1-0 LC) earned an 87-68 road win at York (Pa.) last Wednesday. Moravian College earned its sixth straight win to move to 6-2 on the year. The Greyhounds defeated Immaculata 76-75 in overtime on Wednesday and picked up the 87-51 victory against Marywood on Saturday. Drew University (7-1, 1-0 LC) won its fourth game in a row, defeating Penn St.-Abington, 74-64 on Saturday. Other weekend victors included Elizabethtown College (4-4, 0-1 LC), Goucher College (2-7, 0-1 LC), Juniata College (4-5, 0-1 LC), and Susquehanna University (4-3, 1-0 LC).

Women’s Basketball
Drew University pushed its winning streak to six games as the Rangers (6-2, 1-0 LC) earned a pair of wins last week. Drew defeated New Rochelle 66-34 on Wednesday before defeating Cedar Crest 73-35 on Saturday. Moravian College (7-2, 1-0 LC) was the other lone victor last week, earning a 72-65 win against Gwynedd Mercy.

Track & Field
Only two teams competed on Saturday before the holiday break. Moravian College ran at the Lehigh University Fast Times Before Finals Invite while Catholic University competed in the Haverford Holiday Meet.

Men's Athlete of the Week - Brandon Martinazzi, Juniata

Juniata College senior Brandon Martinazzi had a strong scoring week as he helped the Eagles to a 2-1 record. The senior averaged 18.7 points and 2.3 rebounds to go along with nine assists and five steals. He scored his 1,000th point on the first shot of the game in the 78-71 win against Wilson and was named the Doc Greene Tournament Most Valuable Player after leading the Eagles past Lebanon Valley, 90-71.

Women's Athlete of the Week - Nadine Ewald, Moravian

Women's Athlete of the Week - Nadine Ewald, Moravian

(Jr., C - Allentown, Pa.)

Junior Nadine Ewald averaged 15.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week for the Greyhounds while shooting 15-of-29 from the floor and adding eight assists, four blocked shots and two steals. She had 10 point, four boards and four assists in an 80-65 loss at TCNJ before recording her third double-double of the season and 15th of her career with 20 points and 10 rebounds to go with four assists, four blocked shots and two steals in a 72-65 win over Gwynedd Mercy University.

Men's Track Athlete of the Week - Cosmo Pirozzi, Catholic

Men's Track Athlete of the Week - Cosmo Pirozzi, Catholic

(Jr., Elmer, N.J.)

Catholic University junior Cosmo Pirozzi took home two top-five finishes at the Haverford Holiday Meet. Pirozzi placed third in the 800m with a time of 1:58.96, which is the fastest time in the Landmark so far this season. He also helped guide the 4x400m relay team to a first-place finish with a time of 3:29.27.

Men's Field Athlete of the Week - Brian Stock, Moravian

Men's Field Athlete of the Week - Brian Stock, Moravian

(Sr., Morris Plains, N.J.)

Moravian College senior Brian Stock finished seventh in the long jump with a leap of 6.65 meters (21-10) at the Lehigh University Fast Times Before Finals, and he was also 29th in the 60-meter dash in 7.46 seconds. His mark in the long jump is the best in the Landmark this season, while his 60m time ranks eighth.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week - Aimee Badmann, Moravian

(So., Easton, Pa.)

Moravian College sophomore Aimee Badmann had a pair of 15th place finishes at the Lehigh University Fast Times Before Finals with a time of 8.21 seconds in the 60-meter dash and 27.33 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Her time in the 200m is the fastest time in the Landmark this season.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week - Andrea Galeano, Catholic

(Sr., Stratford, Conn.)

Catholic University senior Andrea Galeano was the runner-up in the shot put at the Haverford Holiday Meet. She hit a new personal record, throwing for an impressive 10.82 meters (35-6). The mark currently ranks her third in the Landmark.
