Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

Landmark Announces Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. - The Landmark Conference has released the Athletes of the Week. The conference will recognize a student-athlete for each sport based on their contributions to their team throughout the season.

Baseball
Most Landmark baseball teams have started their spring break trips. Catholic earned its third straight win, including a 4-3 victory over nationally ranked Christopher Newport.

Golf
Drew and Goucher men’s and women’s teams competed at the Pfieffer Invitational in Hilton Head, S.C.

Men’s Lacrosse
Moravian is off to its best start in program history, improving to 5-0 on the season. The Greyhounds picked up a 9-7 win against Wentworth and defeated Rosemont, 20-4.

Women’s Lacrosse
Drew continued its winning momentum last week, earning a 17-3 win against Washington & Jefferson. The Rangers are now 5-0 on the young season.

Softball
Similar to baseball, the seven Landmark softball teams started their spring break trips. Moravian went 6-2 in Clermont, Fla, while Scranton posted a 4-1 record.

Tennis
The Landmark men’s and women’s tennis teams are still competing during their spring break trips.

Athlete of the Week - Max Felsenstein, Drew

Athlete of the Week - Max Felsenstein, Drew

Drew junior Max Felsenstein hit .444 (4-9) with five RBIs and a game-winning hit over the final three games of Drew's Spring Break trip to California. His top performance came in a 6-5 come-from-behind win at Occidental in which he finished 3-for-4 with three RBI. Felsenstein also drove in the go-ahead run in that game with a single in the top of the ninth as the Rangers rallied from a 5-2 ninth-inning deficit.

Pitcher of the Week - Connor Morro, Moravian

Pitcher of the Week - Connor Morro, Moravian

Moravian junior Connor Morro made a pair of appearances on the same day of the Greyhounds trip to the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida. He tossed five innings over the two relief appearance, allowing just three hits, an unearned run and a walk while striking out seven batters. Morro tossed three innings with just a hit and five strikeouts in a 2-1 loss to No. 21 Misericordia University. Morro came back in the second game of the day to earn the victory in Moravian's 4-2, 11-inning win over Baldwin-Wallace University with two hits, an unearned run, a walk and two strikeouts.

Men's Athlete of the Week - Julian Gonzalez, Goucher

Men's Athlete of the Week - Julian Gonzalez, Goucher

Goucher freshman Julian Gonzalez opened the spring season with a second-round score of one under par (71) to move up to second place after shooting a 77 in the first round at the Pfeiffer Invitational on Tuesday. The freshman finished with a two-round score of 148 to notch his fifth Top-three finish of his career including his fourth Top-two finish to lead the Goucher men's golf team to a fifth-place standing and fourth among the Division III schools at the event.

Women's Athlete of the Week - Lucy Lamb, Drew

Drew sophomore Lucy Lamb tied for 11th among 57 competitors and had a hand in four school records as the Rangers opened their spring at the Pfeiffer Invitational. Her opening-round 79 lowered the previous Drew standard by two strokes, and her final score of 175 tied the program record. In addition, Lamb helped the Rangers break team records for 18 holes (345) and 36 holes (712). Taking on Division II and III competition, Drew placed sixth out of 10 schools.

Offensive Athlete of the Week - Mark Laratta, Moravian

Moravian senior Mark Laratta helped the Greyhounds to a 3-0 record last week as the Greyhounds improved to 5-0 for the first time in program history. He had 11 goals and four assists for 15 points to go with five ground balls and a caused turnovers while shooting 42.3 percent and putting 73.1 percent of his shots on goal.

Moravian junior Jimmy Schicke helped the Greyhounds to a 3-0 week as the Greyhounds moved to 5-0 for the first time in program history. He had one assist, 20 ground balls and eight caused turnovers during the three matches.

Offensive Athlete of the Week - Lexie Sharp, Elizabethtown

Elizabethtown sophomore Lexie Sharp tied a school record with 10 goals in the Blue Jays' 21-11 win over Alvernia on Saturday. Sharp scored five in each half and added two assists for E-town. Her 10 goals not only tied a school record, but tied for the most in a game this season in all of NCAA Division III. Sharp scored four times at Chapman last Wednesday and leads the Jays with 20 goals on the year. Sharp collected 10 draw controls and 6 ground balls in the two games this past week.

Drew sophomore Kat Michalski made nine saves in Drew's 17-3 victory at Washington & Jefferson. She turned aside seven of her shots in the opening half as the Rangers raced to an 11-0 lead.

Athlete of the Week - Alexandria Scheeler, Moravian

Moravian freshman Alexandria Scheeler led the Greyhounds at the plate with a .538 average as the squad posted a 6-2 record at the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida, and she also made five appearances in the circle with a 2-0 mark, a 4.01 ERA and six strikeouts in 22.2 innings. Scheeler was 14-for-26 with two runs, three doubles, a triple, five RBI, a stolen base, a .556 on-base percentage and a .731 slugging percentage, and she also had four assists in the field. Scheeler hit safely in all eight games during the week.

Moravian junior Paige Lesher had a 4-0 week in the circle in five appearances to help the Greyhounds go 6-2 at the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. Lesher posted a 1.66 ERA as she allowed 10 runs, just six earned on 29 hits and four walks to go with nine strikeouts in 25.1 innings. She also had one putout and six assists in seven chances in the field.

Men's Athlete of the Week - Tetsuya Ota, Goucher

Men's Athlete of the Week - Tetsuya Ota, Goucher

(So., - Wesley Chapel, Fla.)

Goucher sophomore Tetsuya Ota won both of his matches in a 5-4 win against Washington College (Md.) on Friday, including clinching the team victory with his singles victory at No. 1 singles. After Ota and Michael Herman won their No. 1 doubles match 8-6, Ota took his singles match 6-1, 6-1 for the team's fifth win on the day.

Moravian sophomore Brooke Adams had a combined 4-0 week in singles and doubles as the Greyhounds completed their trip to the Spring TennisFest in Hilton Head, South Carolina with a 1-1 mark in the two matches. Adams won twice in straight sets at fourth singles, and she combined with fellow sophomore Emma Angle for a pair of victories at second doubles.
