Rangers Top Swarthmore To Get Back In Win Column

MADISON, N.J. - The Drew field hockey team bounced back with an impressive 3-1 win over Swarthmore in Pennsylvania. Hillary DeCataldo got the opener and Lizz Law and Jen Schoepflin added the others as Drew improved to 6-3. Delia Barr and Nicole Gagliardi both had defensive saves in the game for the Rangers.
DeCataldo's goal culminated a period of extended pressure by the Rangers. Beginning in the 14th minute the Rangers pinned the Garnet in their half for the better part of five minutes before DeCataldo's goal. The Rangers had two penalty corners and six shots in that time, including Schoepflin's attempt that hit the post. Finally, the Rangers got a third corner that set up DeCataldo's goal off of Nicole DiBattista's assist.
Just eight minutes later Meghan Santaniello set up Lizz Law for the game's second goal and Law's fifth of the season. Stef Rutkowski made a pair of saves before the half ended to keep the score at 2-0.
The Garnet got their goal against the run of play as Joslyn Young scored unassisted. Barr and Gagliardi both made defensive saves before Schoepflin added her fourth of the season for the game's final goal.
Drew improves to 6-3 with the win, bouncing back from a loss to Goucher on Saturday. They get back into action at Scranton on Friday.
