Juniata Outlasts Susquehanna In Midweek Landmark Match
HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Juniata College's Heather Hassinger
(Middleburg, Pa./Middleburg) scored what proved to be the
game-winner late in the first half, to lead the 16th-ranked Eagles
to a 3-2 win over Susquehanna University, in Landmark Conference
field hockey action Tuesday afternoon at Winton Hill Field in
Huntingdon.
Paula Price (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro) got Juniata onto the
scoreboard barely 10 minutes into the game, when she tipped in a
pass from Erin Smith (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra).
Susquehanna came back to tie the game with 20:30 left in the half,
with Maggie Kramer's goal off an assist from Rebecca Entwistle. The
Crusaders then took the lead with 13:19 remaining in the opening
half on an unassisted goal by Megan Sites.
Kim Wagner (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) tied the game at 2-2 with
7:41 left on the clock, then Hassinger gave the Eagles the lead for
good just 14 seconds later.
Neither team scored during the second half, in a game in which
shots were hard to come by for either squad. Juniata outshot the
Crusaders 9-3, while Susquehanna had a 7-5 advantage in penalty
corners. The two teams were whistled for a combined 125 fouls
during the day.
Denalyn Spratt (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) and Moira
Nugent (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg) each played 35 minutes
in the Eagle goal, but were credited with no saves. Crusader goalie
Lyndsay Meabon made three saves in 66 minutes of play; she was
briefly relieved in the first half after sustaining a minor injury
during play.
The Eagles return to action this Saturday, when they head to
Madison, N.J., to face Landmark rival Drew University.
