Price's Hat Trick Leads Eagles To a Win
YORK, Pa. - Freshman Paula Price (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro)
picked up the first hat trick of her career to lead 15th-ranked
Juniata College to a 3-0 win over York College, Thursday night in
York, Pa.
All three of Price's goals came in the first half. She picked up
her first goal, and what proved to be the game winner, with 22:35
remaining in the first half when she tipped in a shot taken at the
top of the circle by Erin Smith (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra).
Price stretched the lead to 2-0 with 3:08 left in the opening frame
with a goal off a pass from Kim Wagner (Middletown,
Pa./Middletown). She completed the hat trick just one minute and 44
seconds later when she deflected Heather Hassinger's (Middleburg,
Pa./Middleburg) penalty corner hit into the Spartan goal.
"I think we played very well tonight, and we adjusted well to
playing on turf," said Juniata head coach Caroline Gillich. "Our
passing was good, we had lots of scoring opportunities, and we took
advantage."
Junior Abby Funk (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) recorded three saves
while playing the first 60 minutes in the Juniata cage. Denalyn
Spratt (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) played out the shutout
effort, but was not challenged over the final 10 minutes.
The Eagles (6-1, 0-0 Landmark) outshot York College 19-10, and had
a 15-12 advantage in penalty corners.
Juniata opens Landmark Conference play this Saturday when they host
Moravian College at 1:00 p.m. on Winton Hill Field, as part of
Homecoming & Family Weekend festivities at Juniata College.
