Moravian Prevails In Overtime

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Moravian College field hockey team earned
its first win of the 2007 season with a 3-2 come-from-behind
overtime victory over DeSales University in non-conference action
at Betty Prince Field.
Moravian had a 1-0 halftime lead for the second straight match
after junior forward Julia Garofalo tapped in a pass from senior
forward Savannah Bayer in the 12th minute for her first goal of the
season.
DeSales would score the next two goals with tallies by senior
forward Ashley Sparango and sophomore forward Meghan Iudicello to
take a 2-1 lead in the 54th minute.
Bayer would score with just over four minutes remaining in
regulation to tie the contest. Bayer's goal, her first of the
season, came off a pass from senior forward Erica Spatz as the
Greyhounds kept the ball in the goal area after a penalty
corner.
Moravian needed just 1:27 of the overtime session to get the win as
Spatz set up sophomore forward Kayla Carson for the game-winning
goal, Carson's third goal of the season.
Greyhound freshman goalie Maura Acox had five saves for her first
collegiate win while DeSales sophomore keeper Molly Pope made 13
saves and had her shutout streak snapped at 151 minutes with
Garofalo's goal. Moravian had a 24-12 advantage in shots and a 5-2
edge in penalty corners.
