Scranton Captures Win In First Landmark Field Hockey Game

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Senior forward Karolyn Holody (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) and junior forward Margaret Mathewson (Dallas, Pa./Bishop O'Reilly) contributed a goal and an assist apiece to lead The University of Scranton to a 2-1 victory over Susquehanna University in the Landmark Conference opener for both teams Friday evening.

Junior Kristina Goetz (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial) stopped seven shots in goal as the Royals won their second straight game to improve to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in the Landmark Conference.  Susquehanna, which jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, fell to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in league action.

Andrea Fiori put the Crusaders on top with goal off of a feed from Maggie Kramer at the 2:17 mark.  With less than two minutes remaining before halftime, Holody tied it up with her second goal of the season off of an assist from Mathewson. 

Mathewson's game-winning goal came with just 1:23 remaining in the second-half on a feed from Holody, who recorded her second assist of the season.  Mathewson's goal was her first of the season and the second of her career.  Susquehanna goalie Lyndsay Meabon finished with a game-high eight saves

The Royals will open a three-game home stand this Tuesday, September 25, against Misericordia University beginning at 7:00 p.m.
