Crusaders Earn Tight Non-Conference Win

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Late in the scoreless game Wednesday afternoon, Julie Yingling (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) found the left corner of the cage to lead the Susquehanna field hockey team to a 1-0 shutout over the Lady Colonels of Wilkes University.

Yingling, a senior defender, capitalized on a loose ball in front of the Wilkes cage with 5:29 of action remaining. With the win, Susquehanna improved to 4-6 overall, while the Lady Colonels dropped to 4-5 on the season.

On paper the game was "neck-in-neck." Susquehanna tallied an 11-9 edge in penalty corners, while Wilkes held a 9-8 shot advantage.

In goal for the orange and maroon, Lindsay Meabon (Northern/Dillsburg, Pa.) stopped three balls to pick up her fourth shutout of the season. Wilkes goalkeeper Julia Smith recorded five saves in the non-conference match.
