Moravian Tops Men’s Indoor Track & Field Preseason Poll

TOWSON, Md. – Moravian College is looking for its fifth straight men's indoor track & field title this winter, sixth overall. The Greyhounds were picked to repeat with four first place votes and 47 points overall. Susquehanna University, the only other team to win a Landmark track title, was picked second with two first place votes and 39 points. The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy was picked third with 27 points.

Moravian has a strong core returning that earned eight indoor All-Conference honors and 14 outdoor All-Conference honors. Senior All-American jumper Kris Joint highlights the team that also returns senior David Cariello, junior Dillon Farrell and sophomore Albert Myers. Farrell looks to fill the hole left by the graduation of Donnie Noble, the reigning Track Athlete of the Year, while Myers should help make up for the graduation of Travis King, who won several Landmark triple jump titles during his career. Coach Baumann has also added depth in the throws for the Greyhounds.

Susquehanna returns 151 of its 171 points from last year's championship meet. The team graduated only one senior that scored at the meet for the second-place Crusaders. The cross country team is coming off its fifth Landmark title in the past seven years and is expected to make an immediate impact. Sophomores Kwane Hayle and Peter Kerns return as the 2013 Co-Indoor Rookies of the Year.

USMMA will look to improve upon last year's third place finish. The Mariners only lose three point scorers from last year's conference championships while returning a number of All-Landmark performers. Mickel McGann, Jacob Weaver, Tyler McDaniel and Thomas Duncan return as 4x200 meter relay champions.

Juniata College was picked fourth in the poll with 25 points while Catholic University and Goucher College tied for fifth with nine points apiece.

The 2013-14 season kicks off this weekend with five of the six teams in action. All six conference teams will compete at the Landmark Championships March 1 at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa.
