Greyhounds Remain Unbeaten At Home

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Moravian College men's basketball team captured its fourth straight Landmark Conference victory and moved to 12-0 at home in Johnston Hall this season with a 73-53 win over Drew University Sunday afternoon.

The victory is Moravian's 17th of the season, the most for the program since the 1995-96 team went 17-8, and just two victories shy of the school record of 19 wins.

Greyhound senior guard Ryan Miller became the 18th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points on a free throw with 7:59 remaining in the contest. Miller had 20 points in the game and now has 1,006 points in his career. Miller also connected on four three-pointers to improve his career total to 146, third in school history, just shy of the school record of 150.

Neither team scored for the first 3:35 before Moravian jumped out to a 9-0 lead finished off by Miller's first three-pointer of the game at the 15:42 mark of the first half. The Greyhounds would lead the entire game including a pair of 16 point leads in the first half, the second time at 31-15 with 5:17 until the intermission on a pair of free throws by senior forward Mark Franzyshen.

Moravian headed to the locker room with a 39-27 halftime lead after shooting 14 of 34 from the floor (41.2 percent), four of ten behind the three-point line and a perfect seven-for-seven at the foul line in the first 20 minutes. The Greyhounds also had a 22-11 advantage in rebounds in the first half while committing just four turnovers. The Rangers were just eight of 21 from the field, two of eight on three-pointers and nine of ten at the foul line in the first half.

Moravian's lead would remain in double digits for most of the second half as Drew would pull within nine points on two occasions. The Greyhounds' final advantage of 20 points was its largest of the game.

Moravian's shooting cooled in the second half, making nine of 29 field goal attempts (31.0 percent), five of 14 three-pointers and 11 of 16 free throws. The Greyhounds finished the game with a 48-23 advantage on the boards, and Moravian had just ten turnovers for the game. Drew made seven of 20 second half field goal attempts, two of seven three-pointers and ten of 16 free throws in the final 20 minutes.

The Greyhounds had three players in double figures with senior forward Chris Earley scoring a game high 21 points to go with five rebounds, four assists and a pair of blocked shots. Miller had three rebounds, two assists and two steals to go with his 20 points while senior forward Eric Whitman tossed in 14 points and added six rebounds for Moravian.

Freshman guard Maurice Young had points in the Greyhound victory while Franzyshen had six rebounds, four points and four assists in the game. Sophomore forward Eric Weaver contributed five rebounds and three points for Moravian while freshman forward Chris Cullen had five boards.

Senior forward David Cramer and senior guard Chris Lopez each scored 14 points to lead Drew with Lopez adding a game high nine rebounds and three assists and Cramer adding five rebounds. Junior guard Gerald Mullin tossed in 12 points for the Rangers.
