Arnold's Retun To Form Reaps Rewards For Royals

SCRANTON, Pa. - Senior guard Randy Arnold (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) showed signs of his old self in The University of Scranton's 67-49 victory over Drew University in the first of a two-game Landmark Conference home stand Saturday evening at the Long Center.

Sidetracked by a nagging shoulder injury since early January, Arnold connected on 7 of 12 shots from the field to finish with a game-high 18 points as the Royals won their fourth straight to improve to 14-7 overall and 6-4 in the Landmark Conference.  Senior center Tom Bicknell (Melbourne, Australia/St. Bede's College) added 13 points as Scranton shot nearly 62 percent from the field in the second-half to break away from a five-point halftime lead.

Drew, which fell to 6-15 overall and 3-7 in league play, was led by senior forward David Cramer (Columbiana, Ohio/Columbiana) with 17 points on 8 of 11 shooting from the field and senior guard Chris Lopez (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) added 11 points and six rebounds.

Arnold hit 5 of 8 shots in the first-half and finished with 14 points in 14 minutes as the Royals carved out a 32-27 lead.  The Rangers trailed by only four points with 18:12 remaining before Arnold tallied four points during a 12-3 spurt to give Scranton a 13-point lead.

Drew continued to battle back and trailed by only eight points, 51-43, with 9:04 left.  Bicknell then answered with back-to-back basket to spark a 10-3 rally to give Scranton a 15-point cushion with five minutes left.

Prior to tip-off, Bicknell was presented with the 54th annual John ‘Les' Dickman award as the Royals' most valuable player (MVP).

The Royals, who have been hampered by injuries recently, played without senior guard Ryan Kirk (Lansdale, Pa./LaSalle College), who injured his shoulder in practice this week and is expected to sit out tomorrow's regular-season home game against the United States Merchant Marine Academy at 4:00 p.m.

For the game, Scranton shot 55.6 percent from the field and committed only 12 turnovers.
