Moravian Captures First Win of 2008

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Moravian earned its first win of the 2008
season, defeating local rival DeSales University, 8-7, in a
non-conference match at Rocco Calvo Field.
The Greyhounds scored first on a goal by sophomore midfielder
Robert Devine just 1:54 into the first quarter. However, the
Bulldogs ran off four straight goals and led 5-3 after the first
quarter. Each team would score once in the second quarter to head
to halftime with DeSales leading, 6-4.
Moravian would net a pair of goals in the third quarter and limit
the Bulldogs to one goal to pull within 7-6 after 45 minutes. The
Greyhounds scoed the only two goals of the fourth quarter with
junior midfielder Brian Cleaver scoring his second goal of the
match with 13:28 to play to tie the contest at 7-7. Freshman attack
Christopher Mohapp then scored with 7:32 remaining for what was the
game-winning goal.
Both teams took 28 shots in the contest with DeSales holding a
38-34 edge in ground balls. The Bulldogs also won 14 of 22
faceoffs.
Devine, Mohapp, Cleaver and junior attack Keith Danner all netted
two goals for the Greyhounds with Devine adding two assists.
Mohapp, who scored a man-up goal for the Greyhounds, also had an
assist as did sophomore midfielder Cruz Sierra.
Moravian freshman goalie Benjamin Leavy, making his first career
start, had 14 saves and five ground balls in the victory. Junior
defender Steven Carroll led the Greyhounds with six ground balls
while Sierra scooped up five ground balls.
Matthew Kruzewski led DeSales with three goals while Jay Young and
Whit Bruemmer each found the back of the cage twice. Matthew
Brancaccio added two assists for the Bulldogs while Donald Clemens
had one assist. Jarryd Stamatelos had ten saves for DeSales while
Shane Corley won 13 of 15 faceoffs and had a team high seven ground
balls.
