Coaches Select Blue Jays to Win Conference in Men's Lacrosse Preseason Poll

TOWSON, Md. – After claiming its second Landmark title last season, Elizabethtown College was selected as the favorite in the conference preseason coaches’ poll, which is voted on by the league’s seven head coaches.

Elizabethtown College collected six first-places votes and 60 total points to headlines this year’s poll. The Blue Jays are coming off a championship season and returns the majority of its roster all over the field. Jeremy Klipple will lead the Blue Jays' defense and top point producers Mike DiGenova and Mike Scrafano are back to lead E-town's attack.

The University of Scranton was picked second in the poll with 39 points and the remaining first-place vote. The Royals return a strong core from last year's team that qualified for the Landmark Conference playoffs including three First Team All-Conference honorees. Scranton should be right in the mix for a return trip to the playoffs where anything can happen in such a wide-open conference.

Susquehanna University earned 38 points to finish third in the poll. The 2018 runner-up welcomes an experienced group, which features three All-Landmark honorees. Colton Dick (44 pts), the reigning Landmark Rookie of the Year, and Jack Donnelly (35 pts) will lead the River Hawk attack while the defense is in good hands with the return of All-Landmark First Team selections, Travis Yaga (22 caused turnovers) at defense and Dylan Abplanalp (7.47 GAA) between the pipes.

Goucher College earned 23 points for fourth. The Gophers are coming off a playoff appearance and return four upperclassmen, including Mason Gorman, an All-Landmark Second Team selection in 2018.

Moravian College finished fifth with 15 points, followed by Catholic University in sixth with 13 points. Drew University rounded out the poll in seventh with eight points.

The 2019 starts on Tuesday, Feb. 12 with Catholic hosting Southern Virginia.

The top four teams in the final regular season standings qualify for postseason play in the Landmark Conference Tournament. The top two seeds will host semifinals May 1 with the highest remaining seed scheduled to host the championship May 4. The conference champion will earn the automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III Tournament.
