Logan's Tally Leads Scranton Past Goucher
TOWSON, Md. - Senior forward Tim Logan (Spotswood,
N.J./Spotswood) scored a goal early in the first-half to lift The
University of Scranton to a 1-0 victory over Goucher College in
Landmark Conference action Saturday afternoon.
Logan's game-winning goal was set up by freshman forward Michael
Drew (Sellersville, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) less than seven minutes
into the match as Scranton won for the third time in its last four
matches to improve to 8-6-1 and end its first season in the
Landmark Conference with a 4-3 record. Today's win also gives the
Royals three more points in the conference standings and keeps
Scranton in prime position to earn a spot for one of the four
berths to the league's post-season tournament, which begins with
semifinal action on Wednesday, October 31, at the site of the
number one and two seeds.
Logan's goal was his team-leading eighth of the season and the 25th
of his career, which ties him with Enrique Zela Koort (25 goals,
1969-1971) for 15th-place on the Royals' all-time list. Drew's
assist was his second of the season and gives him 10 total points,
which is third on the team in scoring behind Logan (17 total
points) and junior back Gary Racich (Jackson, N.J./Saint Rose, 11
total points).
Freshman goalie Brandon Dombrowski (Hockessin, Del./Salesianum)
made five saves to earn his fifth shutout of the season.
Scranton will close out the regular-season this Monday, October 22,
against Wilkes University in Edwardsville, Pennsylvania, and
against Centenary College in Hackettstown, New Jersey, next
Saturday, October 27.
