Scranton Ends Historic Match With Overtime Goal

KINGS POINT, N.Y. - The University of Scranton men's soccer program made history Saturday afternoon against the United States Merchant Marine Academy.

In the first intercollegiate athletic event between two league members in the newly formed Landmark Conference, the Royals erased a 1-0 halftime deficit to pull out a 2-1 victory in overtime.

Early in the second-half, Scranton tied it up on a goal by sophomore midfielder Jeff Bochicchio (Lake Ariel, Pa./North Pocono), who headed in a shot on a ball served up by junior midfielder Pat Page (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) for his first goal of the season. The Royals pulled out the win on a goal by leading scorer Tim Logan (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) at the 96-minute mark. Logan's goal was his fifth of the season and 22nd of his career. It was also his ninth game-winning goal of his career.

Freshman goalie Brandon Dombrowski (Hockessin, Del./Salesianum) made a match-high seven saves for the Royals, who improved to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the Landmark Conference. Preston Stokes made three saves for the Mariners, who fell to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in league play. USMMA, the pre-season favorite in the Landmark Conference coaches' poll, got on the scoreboard in the 44th minute of the first-half on a goal by Jeff Castro.

The Royals will return to action this Wednesday, September 19, by hosting the Devils of FDU-Florham at 7:30 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
