Merchant Marine Sails Past Farmingdale State

KINGS POINT, N.Y. - Ben Inouye scored two goals to lead the United States Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Farmingdale State on Wednesday night. Ryan Hadley recorded an assist and a goal to help lock up the Mariners victory.  

USMMA improves to 3-2 overall while Farmingdale State falls to 0-4.

The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy scored its first goal of the game when David Poulnot  took a corner kick for the Mariners. Inouye received the corner and place a header into the net. The second goal of the first half again came from Inouyne when he knocked the ball in from just over 25 yards out. With Inouye's second goal of the first half the Mariners took a 2-0 lead at halftime.  

In the 76th minute of the game USMMA recorded its third goal of the game in the 76th minute when Kyle Luetjen scored his first goal of the season, off a pass from Hadley. The Mariners continued their offensive pressure as Hadley netted their fourth and final goal.  

Preston Stokes got the start in goal for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and ended the day with four saves on four opportunities. Farmingdale State's Patric Gubbins made three saves on seven opportunities.  

With another shutout victory, the Mariner defense has not allowed a goal in 310:51.  

USMMA outshot Farmingdale State for the game, 22-10. The Mariners held the advantage over the Rams in corner kicks, 6-0.  

USMMA will return to action on Saturday, September 15th, when it will play host to Scranton for the first Landmark Conference match in any sport. Game time is slated for 12 p.m. at Lower Roosevelt Field.
