TOWSON, Md. – After claiming its second Landmark title last season, Drew University was selected as the favorite in the Landmark preseason coaches' poll, which is voted on by the league's eight coaches.
Drew and 24-year head coach Lenny Armuth collected seven first-place votes and 70 total points to headline this year's poll. The Rangers are coming off one of the top seasons in school history, which saw school and conference records fall. Drew will return its top eight scorers and its starting goalie from last season.
Last year's runner-up Elizabethtown College, led by 35-year head coach Skip Roderick, was picked to finish second in the 2018 poll. The Blue Jays earned 52 points. Standout forward Gilbert Waso, a three-time All-Mid-Atlantic Region selection and twice an All-American, enters his senior season 13 points shy of 100 and just outside the school's career top 10 list in goals (35).
Catholic University earned 48 points to finish third in the poll. 11-year head coach Travis Beauchamp returns senior Brian Galfond, who was the team's leading scorer in 2017.
The University of Scranton picked up the last first-place vote and 34 total points to finish fourth in the poll. Under the direction of 19-year head coach Matt Pivirotto, the Royals will look to make it to the postseason after missing out in 2017.
Susquehanna University finished fifth with 29 points, followed by Moravian College in sixth with 17 points. Goucher College earned 13 points for seventh and Juniata College rounded out the poll in eighth with nine points.
The 2018 starts on Friday, August 31 with six teams in action.
