Eagles Fly Past Stevenson In Men's Tennis
STEVENSON, Md. -- The Juniata College men's tennis squad won its
third consecutive match with a 7-2 win over Stevenson University,
Thursday afternoon in Stevenson, Md.
The win improved Juniata's record to 8-5, heading into an important
Landmark Conference match against Catholic University on
Monday.
Three Juniata players enjoyed wins in both singles and doubles
matches, led by junior Jarrad Silver's (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman)
marathon win at no. 2 singles, 6-7 (7-5), 7-5, 10-8, over the
Mustangs' Ryan Morse. Silver's doubles partner, Arnab Chakrabarti
(Alpharetta, Ga./Alpharetta), notched a more efficient 6-0, 6-2 win
at no. 4 singles over Kevin Stamm.
In doubles play, Silver and Chakrabarti defeated Morse and Stamm,
8-4, at no. 1 doubles, setting the day's tone for the Eagles.
Juniata's other doubles win was at no. 2 doubles, where seniors
Jonathan Skoner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) and Aaron Rhodes
(Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) downed Stevenson's Ted Cooke and
Korey Garner, 8-3. In singles play, Skoner breezed past Cooke, 6-4,
6-0, at no. 1 singles, while Rhodes dropped a decision at no. 5
singles to Ben Petasky, 6-3, 6-4.
Ryan Navarro (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) and Casey Chew
(Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) were Juniata's other singles match
winners; Navarro logged a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Garner at no.
3 singles, while Chew required the super tie-break before finishing
off Randy Speck at no. 6 singles, 7-5, 6-7 (7-4), 12-10.
Juniata will face Catholic on Monday, April 13, at 2:30 p.m. on the
Raffensperger Tennis Courts.
