LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Thousands of student-athletes representing almost 600 different academic institutions have been tabbed as 2012 NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes, the Association announced on Thursday.

Scranton's Kelly Zaccheo Named Academic All-American
Kelly Zaccheo (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton), a senior infielder on The University of Scranton softball team, knocked it out of the park today. For her efforts in the classroom and on the softball diamond, Zaccheo was named third-team Academic all-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in a program sponsored by Capital One.

Walk Off Sends Cardinals To ECAC Title
With its second walk-off win in as many days, CUA claimed the 2012 ECAC South championship on Sunday by downing Neumann 5-4. The Cardinals dropped the day's first game 2-1 to the Knights, before tournament MVP Nina Curto scored on Monica Peters' sac fly to win the winner take-all nightcap.

Royals Rally For Doubleheader Sweep
The University of Scranton softball team used a big fifth inning to rally for a 12-4 victory in the second game against Hunter College on Monday evening, giving the Royals a doubleheader sweep at the Jessup Youth Sports Complex. Scranton won the opener, 8-3.

Drew (13-17, 3-7 Landmark) scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning in a 4-3 victory against first place Susquehanna (19-11, 6-2) in game two of a Landmark Conference doubleheader this afternoon. They Crusaders won the first game of the day 6-1 behind a strong pitching effort.

The Rangers improved to 9-15 on the year with a pair of wins over St. Joseph's College-Long Island (14-12). The Rangers recorded their fourth shutout of the year with a 4-0 victory in game one and allowed only three hits in game two en route to a 5-2 win.

Juniata College sophomore Rachel Smith (Martinsburg, Pa.) belted a walk-off grand slam home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the Eagles to a 12-9 extra-innings win over Lycoming College, Wednesday afternoon at Weaver Park Field.

Byrne Reaches Milestone In Moravian Softball Sweep
Moravian College Head Softball Coach John Byrne picked up his 600th career victory Monday in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader sweep at Delaware Valley College as the Greyhounds won the first game 7-2 and took the nightcap 4-1 to extend their winning streak to seven games.

Catholic Softball Bounces Back With Sweep
CUA snapped its six-game losing streak on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of Drew. The Cardinals took game one 3-2 before the offense exploded in a 14-3, five-inning game two win. Following the day’s action, CUA is 15-11 overall and 4-2 in the Landmark Conference.

Late Inning Heroics Help Scranton To Sweep
The University of Scranton softball team appeared headed for a doubleheader split with Lycoming on Monday evening at the Jessup Youth Sports Complex. But the Royals’ bats came alive in the final two innings of the nightcap and they posted a walk-off 6-5 victory in the nightcap on an RBI sac fly by senior first baseman Tia Dimou (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh). The Royals won the opener, 6-0.

CUA ran its winning streak to four straight after the Cardinals swept two games vs. Randolph-Macon on Thursday afternoon. CUA won the first game 4-1 behind a no-hitter from Erin McMakin and in the nightcap the Cardinals earned a dramatic 8-7 win in eight innings.
