Susquehanna Swimmers Capture Another Win

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Crusader men piled on another win Saturday as Susquehanna (7-0, 3-0) controlled the tempo of a non-conference meeting against the Elizabethtown Blue Jays by a 115-68 margin.

Senior Jeff Fornadley (Hummelstown, Pa. /Hershey) fell just ..25 off of his school record in the 100 freestyle as he won the event in a blistering 47.91. Fornadley also topped the 50 freestyle field (22.70).

Senior Alex Thurstlic (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley) turned in two individual first-place finishes as well by winning both the 200 IM (2:06.88) and the 100 backstroke (1:00.47).

Junior Derek Wolf (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) easily disposed of the 100 breaststroke competition, grinding out a 1:01.43 performance. Wolf also placed second in the 50 freestyle (23.41).

Senior Andrew Lyon (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) took a break from his usual 1000 routine and pulled out a 1:52.71 win in the 200 freestyle. Lyon touched the wall second in the 500 freestyle (5:06.57).

Freshman Alex Willcox (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) took out Elizabethtown 's star swimmer, Chris Miller, in the 1000 freestyle and took the event's top honor by putting out a 10:35.31 performance.

Freshman Jeff Kormanik (Allentown , Pa./William Allen) swam just one individual event, but he won the only race he swam, the 100 butterfly, in 57.23.

The 200 medley relay consisting of junior Rich Brinker (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme), Wolf, freshman Joe Scheno (Berwick, Pa./Central Columbia) and Kormanik used a strong breaststroke leg by Wolf to topple Elizabethtown's top relay and finished first in 1:41.77.

Kormanik, Scheno, Thurstlic and Fornadley combined sprint talents to lead the Crusaders' "A" 200 freestyle relay to a 1:30.56 win.

Susquehanna fielded second-place finishers with Scheno in the 200 freestyle (1:53.13), freshman Steve Grieb (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan) in the 100 backstroke (1:00.81) and senior Brian Savard (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) in the 200 individual medley (2:15.17) and the 100 breaststroke (1:08.56).
