Goucher Women Close Regular Season With Tri-Meet Win

MADISON, N.J. — Britt Hogstrom (Killington, Vt./Woodstock
Union) and Lindsey Phillipson-Weiner (Merion, Pa./Lower Merion) not
only placed first in a pair of individual events apiece, but both
were on Goucher's victorious 200-yard free relay, helping the
Gophers come away from this afternoon's triangular meet against two
other Landmark Conference schools with the two wins they needed to
finish at .500.
The Gophers (6-6, 3-3 Landmark) defeated Drew, 54-39, and the U.S.
Merchant Marine Academy, 52-43.
Hogstrom's first-place performances were in the 100-yard and
200-yard freestyles, two of the events in which she is the
defending Landmark Conference champion. She completed the 100 in
:56.33 and the 200 in 2:05.11
Phillipson-Weiner beat out USMMA's Erika Lawson by :19.45 with her
winning time of 11:38.87 in the 1000 free. Goucher's Hillary
Fabrico (Bloomington, N.Y./Poughkeepsie Day School) was third
(13:03.38).
Phillipson-Weiner's margin of victory in the 500 free was even
greater: her 5:38.53 was :42.36 faster than runner-up Lauren
Callahan of the Mariners.
Joining Hogstrom and Phillipson-Weiner on the quartet that captured
first place in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:49.03 were Abbey
Wegman (Knoxville, Tenn./Berean Christian) and Victoria Adinolfi
(Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie).
Goucher's entry in the 200 medley relay finished in second
place.
In addition to Fabrico, four Goucher swimmers placed third in at
least one individual event: Emily Hasse (Montvale, N.J./Pascack
Hills) in the 100 breaststroke (1:21.30) and 200 individual medley
(2:37.90), Adinolfi in the 100 butterfly (1:06.63), Wegman in the
100 backstroke (1:12.80) and Rachel Lyon (Fallston, Md./The John
Carroll School) in the 500 free (6:22.63).
On the men's side the United States Merchant Marine Academy
men’s swimming and diving team picked up two more victories
this afternoon with a 70-25 win over Drew University and a 56-39
win over Goucher College. The Mariners had six first place finishes
and eight second place finishes, to pace them on the afternoon.
The Mariners were steady throughout the afternoon taking first and
second in five different events, including the first three. Junior
John Albrecht (New Bern, NC) opened the meet up on the right note
winning the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:40.27 while
freshman Joshua Sindorf (Lancaster, PA) came in second at 10:42.56.
Junior Andrew Denning (Las Vegas, NV) then won the 200 yard
freestyle (1:50.81) and senior Scott Heilman (Toms River, NJ) was
close behind placing second (1:52.95). The third consecutive one,
two punch of the meet came in the 50 yard freestyle with senior
Pavel Milke (Rumson, NJ) taking first (22.43) and freshman Kevin
Woods (East Stroudsburg, PA) taking second (23.65).
Senior Joe Martinet (Mission Viejo, CA) collected a second place
finish in the 100 yard freestyle (52.27) and a third place finish
in the 200 IM (2:11.22) to pick up some key points for USMMA. The
Mariners collected four more first place finishes on the afternoon.
Freshman Jordan Edler (Gretna, LA) won the 100 yard freestyle with
a time of 49:56, Junior Brad Pearson (Pace, FL) took the 100 yard
backstroke at 59.44 and sophomore Trevor Mays (Southlake, TX) won
the 500 yard freestyle at 4:50.36. Junior Peter Kaminski
(Pittsburgh, PA) finished the scoring on the day for the Mariners
with the final first place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke
(1:02.97).
