Susquehanna Seniors Sweep Tri-Meet On Senior Day

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - On Senior Day the Susquehanna University men's and women's swimming and diving teams improved to 8-1 and 8-2 respectively on the year by earning wins over visiting Drew University and King's College on Saturday.

On the men's side junior Colin Sullivan (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) and freshmen Chadd Lee (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area), Taylor Cole (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) and Griffin Kearney (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) each swam all or part of the fastest times in three events to help Susquehanna cruise past visiting Drew (3-8), 78-42, and King's (0-13), 90-12.

For the women junior Christie Savard (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) swam all or part of the fastest times in four events, including a school-record performance in the 500-yard freestyle, and Susquehanna (8-2) topped visiting Drew (2-9), 80-31, and King's (6-8), 85-36.

Sullivan, Lee and Cole were each the fastest swimmer in two individual events. Sullivan won the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes with times of 1 minute, 1.90 seconds and 2:21.38, respectively. Lee touched the wall first in the 100 and 200 butterflys with respective times of 55.45 seconds and 2:06.24. Cole was the fastest competitor in both the 200 and 500 freestyles at 1:52.72 and 5:04.60, respectively.

Kearney, who was edged by Cole in the thrilling 500 free by just 0.34 seconds, swam legs on two of the meet's fastest relays. He teamed with Sullivan, Lee and sophomore James Strande (Cedar Knolls, N.J./Whippany Park) to win the 200 medley in 1:44.05 and with Cole, junior Joe Scheno (Berwick, Pa./Central Columbia) and freshman Lars Bogar (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) to beat the 200 free field in 1:35.38. Kearney also claimed the 50 free with a time of 23.32 seconds.

Strande captured the 200 backstroke in 2:12.98, and Scheno won the 100 free in 52.39 seconds.

Savard won two individual events, taking the 200 butterfly with a time of 2 minutes, 17.21 seconds before winning the 500 free in 5:22.21. Charlotte Murray '01 Reemts held the old Susquehanna standard in the 500 free with a mark of 5:24.26, set in 1999.

Savard also started off the meet as a leg on SU's winning 200 medley relay. She joined seniors Cristina Los (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) and Catherine Harris (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) and fellow junior Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa/Freedom) to post a time of 1:56.46. The team of Savard, Harris, freshman Devin Lessard (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County) and senior Hayley Keenan (Pikesville, Md./Liberty HS) touched the wall first in the 200 free relay as well with a 1:47.70 time.

Los and Lessard were part of four fastest finishes as well, including three individual races. Los registered the best times in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes (1:12.76 and 2:38.26, respectively) and the 200 individual medley (2:28.31). Lessard won the 100 and 200 frees (58.36 seconds and 2:06.39, respectively) and the 100 butterfly (1:04.01).

Keenan captured the 100 and 200 backstrokes with respective times of 1:03.63 and 2:17.65.
