For the first time since 2001, The University of Scranton women's swimming & diving team will have a participant in the upcoming NCAA Division III Championships, as sophomore Audrey Campo was invited to compete in the 200-breaststroke at the event on Wednesday.
With her selection, Campo becomes the first Scranton swimmer to earn a spot into the NCAA Championship field since 2001, when Sarah Gazdalski was a qualifier in three events (100-fly, 100/200-back). She is also the fourth women's swimmer to compete at the NCAA's, joining Cathy Hadley (1988) and Marilyn Bogusch (1989).
Campo earned an invitation into the 200-breaststroke at the NCAA's with a mark of 2:20.65 at the Landmark Conference Championships earlier in the month, winning the event in Maryland while setting a new conference, conference championship, and school record in the process.
The NCAA selection for Campo finishes off a banner sophomore season for the Clarks Summit native, as she also captured Landmark Conference titles in the 400-IM and 200-free relay. She was also an All-Landmark Conference second team selection in the 100-breaststroke, 400-free relay and 400-medley relay, as well.
Campo will be seeded 19th in the 200-breaststroke at the NCAA Championships, which will take place in Greensboro, N.C. at the Greensboro Aquatic Center from March 20 through March 23rd. More information as to how to follow Campo at the NCAAs will be posted over the next few weeks at athletics.scranton.edu.
