Baird And Shaffer Pace Juniata At Orange & Maroon Classic
SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Senior Ryan Baird (North Huntingdon,
Pa./Norwin) and freshman Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery
Rock) each posted second place finishes to lead Juniata College at
the Susquehanna University Orange & Maroon Classic, held
Saturday at the Garrett Sports Complex.
Baird placed second in the men's pole vault after clearing a
height of 13-11.25, and was one of four men to post top five
results for the Eagles in the non-team scored event.
Nick Bauer (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) was fifth in the long
jump with a jump of 20-8.5, while Ryan Johnson (Mountain Top,
Pa./Crestwood) also came in fifth in the weight throw with a mark
of 40-9. Jeremy Boback (Ebensberg, Pa./Central Cambria) was close
behind Johnson in seventh place at 38-6.75.
Matt Bailey (East Petersburg, Pa./Hempfield) was fifth in the
3000m run with a time of 9:06.57, while TJ Breya (McClure, Pa./East
Juniata) was third in the 55m hurdles with a time of 8.23
seconds.
On the women's side, Shaffer was tied for second in the high jump
after clearing the bar at a height of 4-11.75, and also finished
second in the 55m hurdles with a time of 8.99. She also placed 13th
in the long jump with a leap of 14-10.
Freshman Lauren Taylor (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) was eighth in the
pole vault after clearing a height of 8-11.75.
Skylar Kulbacki (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) and Laura Rupprecht
(Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) both recorded 12th-place finishes for
the Eagles at the Orange & Maroon Classic. Kulbacki was 12th in
the triple jump with a mark of 31-11.50, while Rupprecht was 12th
in the mile run with a time of 5:44.98.
Both the men's and women's Juniata track and field teams will
compete at the McElligott Invitational at Haverford College next
Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010.
