Moravian Track Teams Have Strong Showings At Delaware

NEWARK, Del. - The Moravian College men's and women's indoor track & field team competed at the Thomson Invitational hosted by The University of Delaware. The Greyhound women placed third of 12 NCAA Division II and Division III teams while the men's team was seventh among 13th Division II and Division III squads.

On the women's side East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania was first with 143.5 points while Rowan University finished second with 133 points and Moravian in third with 97 points. The Greyhounds had a pair of individual champions with senior Anna Heim winning the pole vault in an NCAA Division III provisional and ECAC qualifying height of 3.60 meters (11 feet, 9 3/4 inches). Senior Rachel Riggs, pictured at right, captured first in the triple jump with a distance of 10.60 meters (34 feet, 9 1/2 inches).

Riggs was also third in the long jump at 4.95 meters (16 feet, three inches) while freshman Micah Leonard finished fourth at 4.88 meters (16 feet, 1/4 inch). Senior Jessica Posimo placed second in the triple jump at 10.43 meters (34 feet, 2 3/4 inches), and she was eighth in the long jump at 4.77 meters (15 feet, 7 3/4 inches). Junior Rebekah Finn was fourth in the pole vault with an ECAC qualifying height of 3.30 meters (ten feet, ten inches). while sophomore Brittany Moses was sixth in the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 13.20 meters (43 feet, 3 3/4 inches).

On the track, senior Rachel Beck placed third in the 60-meter dash in 8.20 seconds while senior Symonne Scott took fifth in 8.28 seconds. Riggs was third in the 200-meter dash in 27.07 seconds, and she placed eighth in the 60-meter dash in 8.45 seconds. Posimo took fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.80 seconds while freshman Brianna Krans was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles in 10.44 seconds. Scott finished fifth in the 200-meter dash in 27.14 seconds while Beck placed sixth in 27.35 seconds. Sophomore Kristina Ruggiero was second in the mile run in a time of 5:38.96, and she placed fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:31.95. Senior Katelyn Chando took fourth in the 400-meter dash in 1:03.55.

For the men the Greyhounds scored 42 points to tie with Montclair State University while East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania placed first with 179.5 points and Lincoln University finished second with 74 points. Moravian had one individual winner with sophomore Matthew Lutcza placing first in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:36.44, the second fastest 5,000-meter indoor time in school history.

Junior Eric Woodruff placed second in the 200-meter dash in an ECAC Division III qualifying time of 22.63 seconds. Freshman Alex Macri was second in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:44.97 while freshman Donald Noble placed fourth in 2:50.91.

In field events, freshman Travis King took second in the triple jump with a leap of 13.30 meters (43 feet, 7 3/4 inches). Senior Matthew Witosky placed seventh in the 35-pound weight throw with a distance of 13.67 meters (44 feet, 10 1/4 inches) while senior Michael Blenk, pictured at right, finished eighth in the long jump at 6.34 meters (20 feet, 9 3/4 inches).
